Tyre fitters !!!!

Just had a set of Grabber AT3s fitted at the local tyre depot yesterday.
Despite always telling fitters what the torque & pressures are, invariably they always come out wrong (as I always check myself at the first opportunity).
And yesterday was no exception, as soon as I started the D4, the TPMS warning came on.
So as it was peeing down all day, I just checked them now.

Tyre pressures: 32.5, 33.5, 33.5,35.
Wheel nut torque: I've got an 18" torque bar and nearly had to stand on it to free most nuts, other nuts were under torque, whilst some were there or there about!
Pity the person how has to try and undo the nuts (in an emergency situation) with the standard wheel brace!
(I always carry my Torque wrench with me in the D4)

So word of warning, always check your nuts & pressures after a visit to these establishment.

If by torque bar you mean torque wrench, then standing on it wont do it any favours.

I use a small family owned and run tyre business in Bristol. They use air guns, but hand tighten all wheel nuts with a torque wrench and their pressure gauges are accurate, I do check.

One of the several reasons why they have a very loyal and long standing customer base. Thumbs Up

Sadly I suspect that they are much the exception though. Sad

I didn't say I stood on the torque bar [wrench] I said I "nearly had to stand on it".

I've watched them with torque wrenches after they have used the gun, I've never seen one adjust the wrench, so all cars/vans must be same torque on the nuts/bolts. Rolling with laughter

You will rarely see them actually finish the tightening with the Torque wrench as they have normally already buzzed it way past it's required torque with the air gun anyway and the Torque wrench just clicks when they try to tighten. They then walk away in the belief they have done their job to the book when in fact they've either stretched your stud or pushed the Nut into the soft Alloy wheel

Ditto - Local place near me, absolutely superb service, always correct torque (no air gun, proper wrench) and pressure.

Wouldn’t contemplate going elsewhere.
 Now Golf GTI PP, 7 speed DSG.
Ex D3 and D4

If it makes you feel any better, Australian one’s are just as bad. For some reason they always use 40Psi front and rear for any 4x4/Ute.

I always put the spare in the boot and tell them I’ll fit it back in place, and tell them not to use the tyre wall black coating that ends up sprayed down the side of the car 5 minutes down the road.

First thing I do when I get home is to loose then torque all the wheel nuts and set the pressures I want.

Nothing Wrong with "Buzz" guns as long as you

1-Hand start the (Nuts / Bolts)
2-Use a Torque limiting bar on the gun
3-Do not use gun on locking nuts
4-Then final Torque up with wrench (Hand)

My local one here in Worksop are good (we're new to the area) - I checked the torque and it was about right within 1Nm or so. This is after I'd had to take it in because a combination of corroded/expanded nuts and massively over-torqued nuts meant that even with all the force I could muster on the extended wrench it was starting to A) round off and B) twist the forged end of the wrench - goodness knows what actual torque it was tightened to?!?

I've just swapped all 4 wheels to my off-road set this morning myself and they were a dream to remove for the first time ever!

Ditto. I use one in Corsham, Corsham Tyres. Proper mechanics and tyre fitters. They also understand customer service. Maybe LR could learn a thing or two from them.
