Tyre age plus RLD protector questions

I'm getting 4 new tyres this weekend and rather than just replace the 4 that are in use, I thought I'd check the spare and maybe keep a different one as spare going forward.

It's never been used in the almost 4 years I've had the car so I know it's over 4 years old but when I look at it, it has a DOT code DOT 93 26 J894

According to Tyred.org.uk

Quote:
Tyres in the UK are manufactured with a DOT stamp on the sidewall. The DOT code holds the key information about where and when the tyre was manufactured. The last 4 numbers of the DOT code represent the week and year the tyre was made. It is important to know that any tyre with only 3 numbers in the last section was made before 2000.

so does that mean my tyres are pre-2000 or am I missing something ?

Whilst I've got the spare sat in the boot I might as well leave it there so the fitters don't have to get it out from under the car. So the question is .... I know NOT to wind the cable back up without some weight on it but would it be ok to re-attach the RLD protector and wind it up? is that enough weight ? would it move around too much and damage itself or underside of car ?

TIA
 .

There should be another DOT number on the tyre . Check on the opposite sidewall of the tyre and you should find the code! Just cable tie the winch cable to a point underneath if you are worried about any potential damage. It`s only going to be for a couple of days I would imagine! Thumbs Up

... and the tyre place is now saying they won't take back the tyres they sent as "Rainsport 3 and Rainsport 5 are the same"

They aren't the same at all:

You did pay by credit card, didn't you? Advise them that you'll go back to the card provider and advise incorrect product supplied and you want your money back. And then they can argue with the card company.

I'm guessing they're trying to dump old stock and you're just a hapless target for that.

The rainsport 5 replaces the previous version rainsport 3 and the 5 is just out so I think you are caught in the crossover of new and old stock. There will be more differences that just a name change so dig your heels in to get a matching set of 4!

nope. mate organised it all. tyres/fitting/4-wheel alignment for cost of the tyres alone ... but for cash Big Cry

I've been in touch with Uniroyal who have confirmed they are NOT the same (which I knew, otherwise I wouldn't be bothered). They also conformed their "DOT" code doesn't actually have "DOT" as part of the code. So I'm now fairly sure I'm being fobbed off with old stock ... May 2018.

Really can't afford to waste this kind of money so I'm feeling very p1$$ed off at the mo.

5s started production 2019 and 3s ceased at start of this year.

Handling and wear are better in the 5s according to the info Uniroyal have sent me.
