The 'two bucket' wash for winter months. |
|
Being an advocate of the sheepskin mitt and 2 x bucket wash method.
It's a little harder to maintain in the winter months.
A month or so ago I gave my D3 a good going over with JKP specialist cleaning/protective products.
All ready for what winter throws at it.
Just cleaned it a week ago - didn't use it for three days - went out in the Moors - it's back to filthy.
And I need it clean for a meeting on Thursday.
SO to clean, the winter two bucket method.
1] Fill up buckets as normal - one with water/car shampoo, other - plain water.
2] Instead of using sheepskin mitt - Use large brush on pole used for cleaning caravan.
3] Give D3 a good hose down beforehand
3] Dip brush in soapy water - clean a small section - dip in other plain water bucket to clean brush & deposit grit.
4] After each area i.e. a side of the D3, give a good hose down.
5] If you feel like it, dry off with microfibre towel [it's just going to get dirty again though]
I know JKP will cringe at this method, but there is off road bramble rash already on the D3, so it's not really going to make it much worse [plus as mentioned I've protected it for winter use].
Jet washes are Cr*p on a java, only removing surface mud.
'2 x bucket with mitt' is just too much time spent considering it'll get dirty on next use.
This "2 bucket with brush" method gives you an excellent finish for very little time spent.
Certainly works for me.

Thanks for this ronp - mine needs a good clean and am hoping to do it this weekend. This sounds like a good compromise for the winter months

If it works for ya fella
Yes, I am cringing saying that I carry a soft brush and extention pole in the van, mainly for commercial cleaning
Maybe a better solution is a mild TFR to foam onto it then just blast the cr@p off with the pressure washer.
That's all I really do with mine in between a proper clean and waxing
