Twisted Performance - views?

Hi all, I am new on the forum, considering purchasing a 2005MY TDV6 HSE. As I currently drive a BMW 530D, I am a little concerned with the sluggish 0-60 times (and overtaking ability). I have read lots about Torq Tune on here and will definitely consider TFC for a performance upgrade when I buy the Disco 3. However, a google search led me to Twisted Performance (TP) and their claim to be able to do the following:

TDV6 Hi-Power Download 50bhp 120nM £695.00

Has anyone got any experience of TP, is this a safe enhancement and does anyone know how much a power increase like this will increase acceleration, top speed and fuel consumption? Also are these enhancements safe for the engine?

This increase would take the TDV6 to 240 BHP and boost the torq considerably. I know you get lots of people on here banging on about power enhancements, I hope someone can take the time to help me out with these questions.

Many thanks in advance and I look forward to enjoying both this forum and my D3 when I save enough to get it!

Lots of tunes claim different things

Ultimately all that matters is,

1. How it drives
2. MPG
3. How much development has gone into the tune so you do not end up with knackered engine

I have Torq Tune and am very happy with it, makes the permagrin even wider for me!

I would firstly ask, have you driven a D3 yet? If so have you had enough time to adapt to it, because you will find that it is fairly brisk... of course you wont have the 0-60 time of a 530D BMW, but if you want that, then don't buy 2.7 tonnes of Solihulls finest, buy another Beemer.

Drive it and adapt your driving style to it, i.e. try not to come to a standstill and you'll find oodles of torque to get you shifting and then if you need just a little bit more, then get yourself a tune.

Oh, BTW - i came from a S-Type R into the D3, and i ain't had a problem with the power delivery yet Thumbs Up

cant comment on the d3,-- waiting for torq tune to head my way, Wink
but i had dealings with charlie the chap who runs twisted perfomance, when i had my d2 td5 chipped,
that was a plug in chip ,
that was about 6 years ago, worked very well,
very freindly and helpfull chap, company still going well,he does a lot of r-d on his products,
i would recomend the company and its products, but he is better known for his td5 work and the new defender engine than specialising in tdv6,

I have had mine remapped from the day I bought so can't comment how sluggish it is normally but no problems with it remapped. It doesn't feel that fast until you look at the speedo and realise you are going faster than you think, get it done. Thumbs Up

kaiser .. welcome to the forum

Have a look at http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic5664.html?highlight=turbochip

"Has anyone got any experience of TP, is this a safe enhancement and does anyone know how much a power increase like this will increase acceleration, top speed and fuel consumption? Also are these enhancements safe for the engine? "

TP does not get a lot of exposure here , Like BIGTK more TD5's , the fact that they are not a site sponsor would
also have something to do with it. But from what I have seen a fine company,

Im not going to start the "so whats the best chip" as this have been killed here so many times.
I have a turbochip (only thing I could get here in Ireland) , 10forCash does the TorqTume
TFC has worked on my Disco and knows his stuff , good guy. Thumbs Up , or contact Turbochip
for your local dealer.

The Enhancement is safe IMO , I have 60K done with it now and no problems others here will tell you the same
the offical BHP increase is said to be 50Bhp . I would say more like 40Bhp , but its not the BHP that makes it
so sweet , its the reduction in Lag and the imporvement in low end torq that did it for me , it makes the Disco far
more drivable if you know what I mean . The Lag issue I understand has been taken care of in the 07 Disco.

the 0-60 is better (others here will give you the figures) , the fuel consumption is improved, (drive it hard and your back to where you started though ) , I dont think the top speed is improved , it is a 2.7t 4x4 after all, but it will do 100-115mph with out any problem all day long , and it will do it just as easy with a 2.5t trailer on the back Whistle

My advice drive the O5 Disco first and see what you think , Im sure there are others on here closer to you than
me who might give you a go in a chiped TDV6 so that you can compare.

but Im guessing coming from the 530 ... you will want the chip Laughing

Good look with it. Thumbs Up

Hi Kaiser,

I went for a TP Hurricane plug in unit and a K&N filter about 12 months ago. Slight increase in MPG and a noticeable delivery of power at low revs/speed....better driveability.

I looked around and decided on TP because of there previous work on Defenders and how long they had been around, also they have featured many times in Landrover mags. However, my the main factor for the decision for a plug-in was my location I can't easily get it re-mapped after a visit to the stealer.

All in all I am happy with TP, very helpful and quick delivery Thumbs Up

Hello,
I want to tread carefully here as not to get anyones back up, so here goes.

charley is a reseller of tuning products, he is a good man with a honest business and i deal with him sometimes daily Smile

If you intend to drive to charlse then no problem but i can offer the same service for only 445 all inc and im in York,
i will give you a free test drive of your own car remaped and if you dont like it i will return it to standard and there will be no charge.

A comment on the new 07 puma developement (only info update ) ,

it was me who was the first ever to read and write the puma Visteon ecu and developed it and the newley reliced TD5 Mems with a well known tuning tool provider.

so some of what he quotes is not all 100%, but i suppose this is business .

Ive not made a formal introduction of my self on the forum yet as time has been tight, buthere is a thread with some info

Regards pete

Guys, thank you all very much for your replies to an interesting and seemingly sometimes emotive subject. I definitely want a D3 TDV6 HSE, and am not too fussed about performance as I understand all to well about weight versus power. I used to own a 1998 RR V8 HSE - 9 miles to the gallon in sport mode - nice.......

I just think if there is a relatively easy and inexpensive way of maximising the engines potential then I should go for it. The only other mods I am considering are alloy side steps and a wood dash kit - advice on the wood kit would be appreciated too!

Once I get the best I hope to meet up with some of you in the mud somewhere.

All the best

I Think its may be best you get the car and drive it about a bit, some people are happy with the standard performance of the TDV6 considering its a big car.

If and when you feel you need more power which you may not , the have a read on the forum or go and test try some of the sponcers tuning o get a feel for what is possibile.

The problem with forums regarding advise on mapping is that most people haveonly tryed 1 companys work, they will always sing the praises of that company sometimes its best to ignore and go and try for your self.

Regards and good luck , Pete

side steps are very useful for children but not so useful for the muddy stuff, and they also help defend the car in tight parking spaces if you raise up to off road height

Don't like the wood myself... like the functional look of the dash....

I have a turbochip and like it - had it done about 2 years ago when they were active on here. They have also re chipped it once when it got wiped by a dealer. Would get a torq tune this time, only due to confidence in the after sales side with someone who is active on here - tfc. Would recommend it - it makes the car much more responsive.

Sorry Bellautos have to disagree on the last comment, there is a small group of us who have tried the three main ones. Will concede thou that things move on and your offer to remove if not happy is a good one but not unique all the same welcome Thumbs Up
