Twin Axle Trailer - Turning by Hand
Strictly not caravanning and camping, but I've borrowed a twin axle trailer for some fetching and carrying - a big heavy beast.
I can't reverse it into my drive because the street's too narrow for the car to turn without knocking opposite neighbour's wall down.
No problem I thought - I'll just unhitch and turn it in by hand. Usually do this when bringing the caravan in on the motor mover, but that's single axle and is no problem.
Took about six backwards and forwards manoeuvers to turn it 90 degrees, meanwhile blocking the street to passing traffic.
Is there an easier solution apart from taking two of the wheels off ?MY12 D4 HSE Ipanema Sand

Wind the jockey wheel right up helps.

Wind the jockey wheel out as far as possible to get the weight off of 1 set of wheels. then it should turn almost like a single axle trailer.

I seem to find the opposite works well too. Wind the jockey wheel up so the nose is right down low. As you push sideways also push DOWN on the hitch. If you got a bit of noseweight (you should have) it lifts the rears of the ground and turns ok. Ensure you have enought height so the brake mech. Doesnt ground though.
Maybe 20+ stone is also an advantage D4 HSE Luxury

Also chuck some water on the ground to help the tyres slip
Used to do this on the Nimrods at Woodford when they were being manoeuvred in the hangar involving very tight turns. The undercarriage was four wheeled, and it could over stress the leg without water on the floor.

Thanks guys.
Didn't think about adjusting with the jockey wheel, either up or down.
I'm only 17 stone, but it is seriously all muscle and with no. 2 son who's also a big effer we might be able to improve on our technique.
Will let you know the result.MY12 D4 HSE Ipanema Sand

I turn my 3500kg twin axle Ifor Williams by retracting the jockey wheel and pushing down & sideways on the Hitch with my foot. Lifts rear wheels off floor. & rotates on the front two. Not when it is loaded though!

Another way to create "slip" for moving things is to lay out some of those shiney brochures the holiday companies keep sending. Also works under elderly friends who find it hard to turn round in a seat to get in/out.
Anyway, what is problem if street is blocked - each waiting vehicle can provide at least one person to help move the trailer - or does it not work like that in town?A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

Once unloaded a bit of brute force and tyre scrubbing seemed to do the job.
I wasn't sure how much stick to give it - it's quite an expensive 3.5 tonne Ifor Williams jobby, but the owner's son was with me today and he said just give it a good clobbering

+2 - old numberplates.
My dealer does this (apparently) on body lifts - means you can nudge the chassis to line things up.2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +
