TV Pack worth it?
Hi,
I'm about say "Farewell!" to my Freelander 2 and "Hell-ooo!" to a new Disco 4 and was looking at the TV/DVD pack but it seems a lot of money when I can get a similar thing for around £500 rather than the £2,500 Land Rover want.
Here's an example of some options which look good to me (not that I know a lot about what I'm looking at)
Also, I remember seeing a TV option when I was in the dealers (on an options print out) which was also available but you had to have the Premium Audio pack or something, I think it's the Hybrid TV (Sorry that's a bit vague). Anyone know what that is?
Thanks
Chris

it depends what you need it to do. I have 3 kids under 5 and the rear DVD system is excellent. The factory system beats after market systems I have had in the past. However, I did not spec the TV option as you can't see it when you're on the move and it just loses signal as soon as you drive off. If we're sat waiting for a while we just watch the DVD on the front screen.

The TV (not DVD) was part of the deal when I ordered the Disco 4 HSE, but the value was £500 back in August.
Picture quality is fine, but you can have a frozen picture for a few seconds now and again - normally when on the motorway and going under bridges.

the TV is OK - but i have to say i dont use it.
i guess its useful if you spend a lot of time sitting in the car in "P".
when I have used it its been very good quality and has picked up a good range of channelsDuncan

Thanks everybody for your quick replies.
So if understand it correctly the Hybrid TV allows you to watch TV on the centre console only and by the sound of it you can also watch a DVD on the centre console screen too. Is that right? Oh yes I'm going for the HSE version and have two kids one 9 and one 6 and don't think they'll be able to see the little screen from the back (2nd row). Is the screen clear/big enough?

I dont have the DVD option but those in the second row seats have watched the tv without any complaints. Is the DVD kit not just for the rear of the headrest - Hope another member can answer that one.
There is also a kit available to give "picture in motion" so passengers can watch the tv when the gear selector is not in park.
As you will know, its not legal "to be able to see directly or by reflection a TV receiving apparatus used to display something other than information about the state of the vehicle or its equipment, or about the location of the vehicle and the road on which it was located, or to assist the driver to see the road adjacent to the vehicle or to assist the driver to reach his destination."

Tv and dvd can be watched on the front screen .
If you have the rear seat headrests and the rear seat entertainment package you can watch both on the rear screens ( or tv on one and dvd on the other )
Tv is great ..great picture and lots of channels . I have "modifiyed " mine so can watch either dvd / tv on the move up front .
I retrofitted the RSE kit ..i just used non LR headrests and still can control them from up front .
Tv is £510 option from new ...to buy the tv module afterwards from LR is £1300 ..then you need a couple of hundred quids worth of looms and antenna amps . If your thinking about TV ..i would suggest you get it as an option from newG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Thanks wiggs and BBDisco3,
Not sure what an RSE kit is. Is that something you get from Land Rover? How much is it?
So overall it sounds like I should get the TV option now rather than retro-fit but not bother with the whole £2,500 A/V system.
But just to be clear am I correct in the following:
1. The HSE Audio/Nav/DVD pack allows DVD to be played via the centre console.
2. The Hybrid TV allows you to watch TV via the centre console as well.
3. At a later stage, I could get headrest screens (maybe not from Land Rover) that plug into and will be controlled by the HSE Audio/TV/DVD unit.

RSE is rear seat entertainment. Meaning screens in the back, not anything else!

Ahh I see, thanks sarumlight. So wiggs was probably referring to a 3rd party RSE but which plugs into the Disco's TV/DVD player...

no i fitted a LR RSE unit , then enabled it all so it comes on the front screen .
Dont think you can have LR DVD without the RSE unit as the DVD player is plugged into it ..
For the £2500 you would get rear screeens , dvd and rear seat entertainment ( basically the option of controlling everything via the front touch screen )
I would suspect the TV would be on top of thatG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Right! So, the Options List I saw is misleading as you can't watch anything without the RSE kit and there are extra add-ons that allow you to watch it up front on the move. If you want TV then that's an additional £500.
