turn key and release to start engine - does yours work?
Well - does it?
I have to turn and hold mine whilst the starter motor turns the engine over, but the hand book says you should just turn the key to the start position and let it go - the starter motor will continue until the engine is running. If I do this the engine stops turning over as soon as I let go of the key and then I get a few error messages!
Yes, took me a while to realise that it usually caught a fraction of a second after I let go, rather than the other way round. Could be just a V8 thing?
Guess it is the same control algorithm as used in those fancy cars with start buttons.....Craig

Ah! but manual implies "turn key and release and I, the D3, will keep cranking until the engine fires" - which doesn't happen. Not to me or the other TDV6 guys on here.
Unless any hyperpecuniate (rich) V8 owners can vouch differently...2006 D3 finally swapped for a 2016 D4 Graphite in Graphite grey. No mods

My old Merc. you just turn the key, leave go and it would keep going until it started. Just the same as if you had a starter button.
D3 does not. You have to keep it turned until the engine fires up.
But, Hey, You know what? I love breathing life into my beast. 8) ..........Cars good as well Global Warming.... I'm luvvin it

My V6 petrol does I'm not so good at giving advice...may I offer you a sarcastic comment instead?
So now not only do we have to press the 'I Agree' button on the SatNav if we drive a diesel we have to keep the key turned until it starts, frankly I can't believe the audacity of Land Rover, WTF are they playing at! The End
