On recent trip heard a story from an ex 2011 D4 owner who claimed to have been through five turbos before selling the car. He tows a dual axle caravan (don't know the weight, driving conditions etc). I heard from a serious source that towing of dual axle caravans in the southern hemisphere is is only allowed in phases of waxing moon (can anybody confirm, that it’s the other way round in the northern hemisphere?).
The good news is that LR decided to introduce a bonus-card system for the LR4 owners. If you bought 10 turbos, you will get no. 11 for free ….

It's more likely that he was towing a really heavy rig and used cruise control all the time. Going up hills with CC on causes over-fuelling, leading to high EGTs.

Anything including Discos and turbos can be broken if not used/driven correctly.  It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

btw, I don't see a link between CC (which simply regulates the electronic controlled throttle) and EGT. EGT isn't more affected as if you push the pedal to the floor constantly.
As M3DPO said: you can break everything by misusing it.

As M3DPO said: you can break everything by misusing it.
Towing a 3.5T van up a hill and expecting the beast to maintain that speed is the problem. The cruise control wants to maintain the same speed as going on the flat - so it keeps increasing the amount of diesel injected. Too much injected and it goes out the exhaust manifold and wrecks the turbo/turbos.

Could also be the oil burn issue and the dealer did not know about it and replaced both turbos.
