Cool, what else have you done? I'm very interested in the car PC idea. How reliable have you found it to be?

Just been on the TC website and found this quote:

"We are selling the Turbochip upgrade on all our new Landrovers wthout question. It has made a great product even better "

Mr C , Aftersales Director, London

It would be interesting to find out who the mysterious 'Mr. C' is and speak to him about the LR warranty.

BTW, When we bought the Saab 9-3 for SWMBO, we were offered 150bhp (standard), 175 & 190bhp options, all with the same 2.0l engine. We paid £750 extra for the 190bhp chip upgrade.

I think it comes down to LR won't honour the warranty if an ECU mod is the cause of problems but LR dealers that sell the mod will, they load the cost of the mod sufficiently so on the off chance that one did cause a problem they've made enough profit to cover the cost of any repair

Mr C was my customer and the dealership in question is Stratstone and I know that they will just 'push' any warranty claim through regardless of what accessory is fitted to a car even it technically could affect the warranty.

They have amazing influence with LR and have very few rejected warranty claims

Logical really, why would a main dealer want to miss out on warranty work?
If they report the modification to L/R, then not only are they likely to loose the customer, but the work as well.

Excatly, I know one LR workshop that 'survives' on warranty work with at least 60% of workshop time charged back to LR every month.

Face it the dealers need to have warranty claims accepted or the cost concious customer will simply take their car to another cheaper garage.

Out of curiosity, how many problems and issues have ben reported that could (with or without chipping) have or could have been attributed to ecu modification?

You'd be a hard dealer to link squeaky wiper blades to a TC remap. Shocked

From what I read the TDV6 seems to be quite a reliable unit.

Early TDV6's had turbo problems due to poor manufacturing but apart from that I havent heard of anythimg else

That doesn't surprise me., I'd imagine warranty work involves slightly less admin. costs for the dealer as well.
I've already posted about the Saab dealer that replaced two auto. boxes (flying them in from Sweden!) under warranty, even though it was clearly my fault Embarassed They never mentioned the fact that the engine & exhaust system was modified & producing too much torque for the box to handle, but they knew full well. The head technican was always talking to me about what had been done to his & my cars.
Another reason why I have no concerns whatsoever about a re-mapped TDV6.

I think the "issues" section of this forum supports this.
