Turbo Replacement on MY11 D4 HSE

After a couple of visits to the dealer to try to resolve a rubbing noise when the car is cold, I've just been advised that it requires the turbos to be replaced. I had a drive around with the mechanic yesterday and he described the noise as a "hoot" (not in the haha sense). Anyway Apparently, there is a TSB for this and the dealer has spent the best part of today liaising with LR technical support.

My question to the knowledgeable techies of the forum is whether, after the body has been lifted, it will all fit back together again without driving me nuts by rattling for the rest of its days. Also, is there anything I should look out for when I collect it. The parts are on back order so it's likely to be a couple of weeks. I know I should trust the professionals but it's my pride and joy they're going to dissect !!

Salient facts are MY11 (December 2010) SDV6. 15k miles from new. No fault codes. Previous diagnosis was to replace idler pulley. Main dealer in Central Leeds which has generally been reviewed positively by forum members (myself included).

Bobgolden, I had a turbo replaced on my MY10 a couple of years back, no noticeable rattles or noises afterwards, did a good job as far as I was concerned. Thumbs Up shouldn't have much to worry about!

Thanks for the reassurance Skep.

Sorry RAW, the dealer didn't give me the TSB reference which was one reason I posted in the hope that someone might recognise it from my very vague description. Long shot I know.

On my D3 I had the body lifted and engine replaced, the body comes up in one so shouldn't really be disturbed inside the cabin, and therefore it shouldn't squeak if it doesn't now

^^ As Dave T says, they lift it off as a whole and don't touch interior.
Bumpers, wheel arches, grill, headlights and mud flaps all removed so check to make sure they haven't damaged anything. Various pipework and wiring disturbed/disconnected under bonnet so check to make sure everything looks in place and tidy.

Stu.

Any new suggestions from them now for the noise?

I have to say that engineering design that requires the body to be removed in order to remove ancillaries like turbos, is not good engineering design IMO

You can lift the body in under 3 hours, I'm sure DM can do it quicker still.

Great idea if you have loads of bits needing done at once as everything is exposed.

Maybe, but Jaguar's XF uses the same engine / turbos in an engine bay surely no bigger than the LR. And they can presumably do this work in something close to 6 hours less. What a cost difference!

Surely you can just ask for a printout of the TSB and is both turbos being replaced?

The update today was that they were having to send various diagnostic reports direct to LR. When I looked on Topix, there's only one TSB for a D4 cold turbo problem but. I can't see the content. Thing is, since they last fiddled with it, the noise was a bit more persistent but the indicated economy actually improved so I saw 30mpg for the fist time in about 2 years.
