Tropicool 12 v fridge

I know I'm going to be told that an Engel is be only fridge to get, but I cannot afford or justify the £600 to get one for he use I will give it.

My existing Hella unit has served well for 7-8 yrs as an in car coolbox / fridge for travelling on holidays and keeping shopping cold or semi frozen when on holidays too.

Now I need to replace, has anyone experience of the Waeco tropicool range?

I'm looking at be TC-21, size wise this fits my needs Thumbs Up

TIA

I also have a good one from Halfords, which as long as you keep the engine running works really well, works as a cool box, and is quite cheap

Yep seen the Halfords offers, Auto express, tested half a dozen and the Halfords came 3rd, to a Kampa and a Mobicool, but the tropicool lost out based on cost, just figured its 30 below cooling was good

WRONG! Razz

The fridge to get is ARB Thumbs Up

Waeco TC 21? Cool it down using 240 volts

This fridge consumes 4 amps/hour at 12 volts so do not be tempted to run it off your starter batter or you my well come back to a flat battery!

Hi,

As Brendon just said, the TC-21 is very power hungry,it does do the job but it will kill a battery very quickly, i had one a few years back as i too couldn't understand or justify the cost of an Engel or Waeco!

For short journey's with the engine running you'll be fine but do not leave it plugged in because it really will kill your battery within hours!

I did end up biting the bullet and buying an Engel in had 2 now,get units and can easily run a week without the engine running!

Please note my fridges have all run off my split charge system,so had no affect on my main battery!

Hope this helps you make the right decision

rgds

Darrell Thumbs Up

It's only really to transport cold stuff from England to our house in France, and back, and then shopping like I cream and lollies from shop to house when we are there, so I think the TC 21 would be ok and my 12v supply in the boot is as original wiring and still ignition controlled.

My dad has the current Hella fridge with him in France and says its dead, so first task is to see if it really is when he gets back next week, if so, looks like I'll be spending Thumbs Up

Thanks all for the info, as you can see, an Engel would be nice but not justified, maybe a late night trip to a hoard in Great Ecclestone is in order Rolling with laughter

Tropicool is about the best thermoelectric fridge you can get so should be OK just don't leave connected for long periods without running the vehicle and you will have no problems. Thumbs Up

Hi Greg I have had a tropicool tc 35 for some years now, not cheap but a great piece of kit runs off 12/24 v or 240 v keeps my beers cool in the awning during the summer, large enough to stand 2 ltr bottles too. Has the heat option too but never used that, you wont be disappointed.

Thumbs Up

Has proven to be invaluable ....two weeks in Morocco in up to 52oC heat ....then aside for the occasional outing... nearly 3 years continuously as a drinks fridge in the house. Bow down

This is what you want. It lives in the car, is permantly on and has been used in some bonkers temperatures.

The fridge freezer split option is brilliant. Don't be a Sheep , be a lion and break from the fold. Laughing

i've had a tc-35 for 3 years and used it for trips to French alps in the summer and all sorts of off roading in uk. I reckon its well made and doesn't use much power compared to the cheaper makes. Have used it for exactly what you are going to use it for and found it has never let me down. Never had a problem getting it to cool relatively quickly. Its been thrown into the back of landys and vans and only has scratches to tell the tale.
