travelling in France

The caravan club is reporting that it is NOW illegal to use a sat nav in France that warns of
fixed speed camera locations.. There are similar rules in Germany, Ireland and switzerland.
1500 euro fines if caught.

Sean, it seems the Caravan club are correct, the AA also report similar.

Quote:
Satnav and speed camera alerts
Since 3 January 2012 French laws have prohibited drivers from carrying any device capable of detecting speed cameras. This includes devices able to warn or inform of the location of speed cameras e.g. satnav or gps systems capable of showing speed camera sites as Points of Interest.

As well as the ban on warning devices, the French government is installing around 400 new, unsigned, fixed speed cameras as well as taking down signs indicating the location of existing camera sites.

If you have a satnav capable of displaying French camera locations in France then you must at least disable camera alerts. Contact the manufacturer for advice too as a software or database update is likely to be available that will remove camera data for France from the device.

If you have a satnav system built into your car then contact the vehicle manufacturer in the first instance.

Interestingly on the same page the AA reports of the probable need to carry one or more portable breathalysers in the car.

Quote:
Breathlaysers
From 1 July 2012 all drivers in France are likely to be required to carry one or more portable breathalysers in the car.

The French government hasn't published detailed regulation changes yet so we can't confirm what type of device or how many must be carried, nor can we confirm the actual implementation date.

It is likely - as was the case when requirements to carry reflective jackets were introduced - that there will be an advisory period before on-the-spot fines apply.

We expect more detail in March sometime.

I saw that about breathalysers. Hopefully commonsense will prevail and we won't have to carry them. What if you have a drink and breathalysers says you are fine and police say no no no come with me. l much prefer just too have a law that's says you can't drink and that's that. With no need to carry breathaly
sers.

Well they will be desperate to get their AAA rating back and speed cameras are an effective revenue generator Laughing
