First aid kit, warning triangle, at least one florescant vest in reach of driver seat (possibly one for each passenger as well), spare bulb kit, GB sticker or EU type number plates with GB and from first 1st July one breatherlizer self test sticks. I think that's it, but give it a few months anf they'll add something else Laughing

If you wear glasses and you are driving you MUST have a spare pair WITHIN REACH at all times.

Don't forget your headlight beam, deflectors or switch them over.

Ensure that speed cameras are deleted from your Sat Nav as this is now illegal to have, most Sat Nav producers now have a patch/update to delete these.

Other useful stuff:

Insurance documents / log book / driving licence

Plan for breakdown, LR cover or other Euro cover

Toilet roll, some service stations or Airs don't have any

Check your spare tyre pressure and be ready to remove EVERYTHING from the rear to get to the winch to release it, or have the adaption tool set up. A decent wheel nut wrench, some telescopic ones in Lidl at the moment cheap

Know your height, vehicle not you, for ferry / tunnel / car parks or tolls

Torch

Pocket knife

Mat or small tarpaulin just in case you have to crawl about changing a tyre

I wasn't aware of the spare specs DT - though I'm 99% sure I have a set in the car, I'm not sure I can reach them when driving - though I'm not sure how I'd loose them or break the ones on my face whilst driving TBH Rolling with laughter

....... to remember they usually drive on the other (wrong) side of the road. All else (like for the French) is optional. Whistle

Have you never been smacked by your wife while driving for shouting at her for giving you wrong directions or am I the only one? Embarassed

Laughing Sorry I should have said that this is IF you are wearing contact lenses whilst driving Wink

Don't forget a Fire Extinguisher - If you fail to render assistance in the event of a fire or take necessary precautions to prevent a fire from escalating is an offence

There was talk last year that we would also need speed limit plates stuck to the back of the 'van, indicating max speed for RN's and Autoroutes, and that max speed was going to be dependant on the gross train weight. I don't know if that is in force yet, or if the idea has been abandoned Thumbs Up

speed limit plates...really? might as well add 'long vehicle' and 'wide load' to be sure we have the full set!

The only things (aside from speeding) that I have ever seen the French police super keen on are high visibility vests (roll them up and stuff into the third row cup holders so they can be seen from outside) and headlight deflectors.

With speeding, also be aware of the reduced speed limits when it is foggy or raining - and headlights on in tunnels!

If ever you visit a toilet on one of the numerous rest areas, watch out.
I went into one last summer. You can imagine a men's restroom in such a place (but a man 's got to do what a man ...).

There is a button there which sprays some desinfectant over the toilet seat. It seemed a good idea to use this at the time.

Some of it sprayed on the lower part of my leg. It itched a bit when driving further on but after a few hours the spots had turned into burns! It took over 4 weeks to heal and I can still mark the places as the skin is discolored even now, over 6 months later.

So... let's be careful out there.

I thought the breathalyser kit was French only, you didnt need it as a tourist visitor.
