Transmission noise and rumble from front wheels.
I am currently chasing down a noise from the front wheels. It's not very loud at the moment but you can feel it through steering wheel and at motorway speed there is a marked increase upon deceleration. Cornering doesn't have much, if any, effect, it might be very slightly worse on a right hand bend. The car has covered 94000 miles.
So far I have had a good tug on the front drive shafts, there is no noticeable rotational play. I thought the o/s front hub had some play so replaced it, but I think it was worn track rod ends. They have both been replaced also.
So now I have the front propshaft to look at (the rear has just been renewed) and perhaps change the diff oil. Of course it could still be one or both driveshafts.
Any thoughts welcome. Thanks.Simon.

I had similar and turned out to be a wheel bearing ,off side
For some reason a main dealer swapped the near side but didn't do the pair
Cured mine

I have been under the car today and there is quite a bit of torsional play at both ends of the front prop shaft so have ordered a replacement. Fingers crossed!Simon.

Quick update. Changed the front propshaft, no change. Replaced the n/s front hub with the one removed from the o/s, no change!
The front drive shafts feel fine. Having done further reading on here, I now think it likely that it's the bearings in the front diff. I will change the oil tomorrow, just in case it's empty and to see if there are any particles in the oil. Then I have decide whether to buy a bearing kit or a recon. diff.Simon.

I have the same rumble and vibration.
It’s the front diff at fault. Mine is going away to get rebuilt next week.

I haven't swapped wheels around, but the tyres still have plenty of tread, I will double check them tomorrow when I change the oil.
I want to know that at least the diff is correctly serviced before I tow the caravan to Bristol and back!
All being well I will take the Diff out in the next couple of weeks.Simon.

Changed the oil in the front diff. today, it looked like dark grey metallic paint!
There were a couple of metal flakes and a bit of fuz on the drain plug, but nothing too dramatic.

Well the diff. is out! Not too bad a job, it probably took about two and a half hours. I have ordered a reconditioned unit.

It might be significant, or not, but I blew down the breather tube and it appears to be blocked. It hasn't been modded, so a new one has been ordered from Advanced Factors.Simon.

How much did your new diff cost and where did you source it from, if you dont mind me asking?
