Having a Transmission flush on my D4 today and just been rung by workshop to tell me the car is stuck in Park and they can't drive it off the hoist. Anyone had this strange experience? Land Rover Series IIA 1967

Is it mechanically stuck? Have they bashed the linkage? Have they tried to release the interlock under the selector? Have they checked the fault codes? Tried a hard reset?Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
Checking fault codes tomorrow, no hard reset done yet and am not sure if it's mechanically jammed or electronic. I did worry that they forgot the foot on the brake but they are auto trans specialists so would suppose they would know that (now you have me worried!)Land Rover Series IIA 1967

Fault codes showed "pressure solenoid C electrical" as receiving insufficient current from the TCM. Transmission garage replaced the solenoid and it continued to happen! Car would not go into drive (or if did then would only get limp mode), locked me out of reverse, or locked into park. After talking to LR Australia and extended warranty decision was made to replace the whole valve block in the auto transmission, including the TCM (in ZF speak the mechatronics unit) which is built into the valve block. All done by extended warranty at their cost with no quibbles. Have driven 1,500 Kilometers since last week when this happened with boat in tow and so far OK. Don't know how it happened, but the problem surfaced immediately after the mega flush. Land Rover Series IIA 1967

Hi Jeff
Do you know what type of transmission flushing machine was being used? Pump inlet or Oil cooler line? There is a fair description of these machines here -

There are plenty who have had it done and are happy, failure are I think normally down to crud floating around, if thats the case the box is dying anyway, what worries me here is that a normal service oil change would seem to have killed a box so I am after more information.
If flushing could be the issue are we better off just changing the oil and filter and refreshing the oil more often?
Plenty of opinions here just keen to get to the facts.Paul Redding

Could you let me know where you had it done in Perth as I haven't found anyone who can do a megaflush.
The only other information I have is that when they fitted the new filter after the flush, the car would not come out of Park to get it off the hoist. They then inspected the filter and told me it was "distorted" and had been returned to ZF who were investigating. I also believe that the tolerances between the new filter and the valve block (and TCM?) are very small on the D4 so perhaps the distorted filter damaged something? Though I would not have thought the valve block should be so delicate. Or there was a sleeping problem brought out by the flush? All I know is the car was running fine when it went in and has never given me any trouble. It has done 80,000 Kilometers and the oil that came out was only slightly discoloured but nothing else unusual. The company that did the job have been flushing D3s for years and do on average one or two per day. Sorry, don't know what flushing method was used. Land Rover Series IIA 1967

My suggestion is to go to Southern Land Rover if you want a flush done in Perth (Australia that is!). I know they do the flush and I have always found them to be good for warranty work etc. BTW, they did not do the flush on mine. Land Rover Series IIA 1967
