Transmission fluid for auto

Hi folks, quick question on auto gearbox oil. Picked this up from local motor factors, just wanted to do a change, is it the right one?

According to comma oil’s selector, yes.

See this thread https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/transmissio...65734.html for some discussion around the subject.

If it's red fluid then its likely to be the wrong stuff.

There is only 1 approved red AT fluid for these (and its not that one). despite their claims

And just about every gearbox repair specialist WILL NOT warrant a red ATF fluid, regardless of it meeting the required specs

TBH, they do that for a reason...

Hi

Mannol AG55 ATF is approved and many use it , ref in dazz 350 post

Also bought 10 x litres of it , think it’s a bargain at that price Thumbs Up

Also as a side note I noticed the gearboxes cooler pipe leaking , fitted 2 x jubilee clips , sorted Thumbs Up

While I hold Disco_Mikey and Pete K in very high regard w.r.t. their knowledge - I’d also like to observe that, particularly in the U.K. where D3 values seem to approach zero, does it make sense to think about repairing an auto box unless you’re emotionally attached to your toy... I mean investment? 8)

D3s go for 3-7K now and fixing the box has to be at least 1-2k?

Not sure what point your getting at.

A cheap oil change (with correct oil) should extend the life of the box.

If it has already failed it won’t do a lot

Thanks all for your input, I decided to take the comma stuff back, and order the mannol. Just changed it and was way easier than I thought, the old was pretty mucky, so I might change again in a couple months.
