Transmission Fault

I know this subject has been covered before, but as I seem to be getting nowhere, I thought I'd post my individual set of symptoms in the hope that someone can help.

The fault occurs at random times, yesterday it was after driving for 10 minutes around town, today it was after driving for 45 minutes (including a run on the M25 for 30 miles).

The fault pings up on the dash and also says that HDC not available, suspension then slowly lowers.

The fault is reset when turning the car off for 2 or 3 minutes, when switched back on , system check goes OK, but suspension rocker switch needs to be flicked forward to normal suspension height setting.

Checked brake lights all OK. checked battery all OK. it had a service yesterday, they ran a diagnostic and suggested a random array of faults were logged, but not one thing in particular.

Two main questions:

. Is the car safe to continue to drive when the error occurs?

. Driving with the suspension lowered to access? does this cause damage?

Thanks in advance

The 'random' codes could provide a clue, best to post those. Otherwise the intermittent nature of it would lead me to believe it's a corroded wire in the brake light circuit. See
https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/transmissio...37607.html

Second page has good photos of the corroded wire. I had the same thing happen to mine. Eventually it gets to the point that turning the car off and on doesn't 'fix' it. Also check your sun roof drains, as the connector rots where they pass though the fenders and then the sills fill up with water (mine had an inch of water in them) that also exasperates the problem.

Thanks for the message. I will ask the garage for the codes from the diagnostics run.

After reading your link to the other thread, I'm wondering whether some recent work I had done on the car might have a effect.

Old rusty side steps were recently removed and new black plastic trims were fitted to the cills. Could this have damaged brake wires?

Regards

Brake switch (behind the pedal) is also a well known fault

It's hard to say. The splice that fails is due to poor workmanship on LR's part, they spliced wires together with no solder and just taped the joint.

As Sea Raider says, it could be the brake light switch or the wiring. The switch is cheap and easy to change, it's located below the steering wheel, you remove the access panels and there is one electrical connector to remove. I'm sure you can find a post on here with detailed instructions but it's pretty straight forward. I'd start there.

The first thread I posted has better diagnostic information (see posts by Robbie), this one will help with how to get the sill panel off if replacing the brake switch doesn't solve the problem.

Also post the codes.

Have you had a wheel alignment done lately?

Has the engine been washed as part of the service? You could check the connectors behind the battery into the TCCM ecu (silver box) as they are also prone to corrosion and that impacts the centre diff and transfer box.

Turned out to be a simple short onthe battery cable.

All sorted now thank you. Turned out to be the battery. New battery fitted and all sorted. Thanks for your advice.
