Transfer Box Calibrated = Drive Transformed!
As well as doing the 120k mile service, replaced front diff oil, and fitted a new sump yesterday, I also attempted to investigate the excess play in my transmission that seems to have been getting progressively worse over the last couple of months.
I'm pretty sure I'm not imagining it, but the way my D3 drives has been transformed simply by calibrating the transfer box:
Gear changes - especially 1st to 2nd - are no longer notchy and very smooth through all the gears once more (mine's a manual)
No more "kangarooing" when moving slowly in 1st gear (in traffic)
Better roadholding when cornering (previously, I could feel the wheels skipping when on full lock! )
More than 50% of the excess transmission play seems to have disappeared 8)
Transmission generally seems quieter
It's a very quick operation with an IIDTool. Took about 2 minutes in total and wish I had explored this sooner.
Does this sound plausible or am I imagining it?

I have the Bluetooth one. It's great and wish I had bought it sooner.
Best £300 you can spend on a D3 IMO.

I had the impression that you cannot calibrate the transfer box with the IIDTool.....

I believe the capability was added in a V3.00 firmware release. Not sure exactly which version but it's certainly there on mine. 2021 BMW iX3 Premier Edition in Carbon Black ⚡️🔌

I calibrated mine a few weeks ago. I didn't notice any difference to the way the car drives. However I can now turn one lifted wheel if the other three are still on the floor. I couldn't before I did the calibration.Freelander SE 2005 Auto.

You could try to do it without a diagnostic tool if you like.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
