Tranmission Fault / Special Programmes not available |
|
Could anyone shed any light on these two messages I get when starting the car. They only appear about once every 10 starts. Dealer has had a go and thought it was battery, but they still occur.

I get this too. Happens more in the cold. Again dealer (same one?) said it is nothing to worry about and is probably battery/cold related. Happening still now its a bit warmer but not as often.
Always clears after a couple of seconds. Car is always "normal" to drive after it.
Sounds the same to me. Also same age car. Maybe its a "feature" of the 2005 model.

It is almost certainly a low voltage during engine cranking that causes a gearbox sensor to fail its range check. If the symptom keeps happening, especially after a good long run, you should get the battery/alternator checked properly.
Also would be worth cleaning/checking the battery terminals.

Batteries from landrover. Had 1 fitted before christmas. The one that WAS on the landy was a 850Ah and I wanted a bigger one, they quoted me £145 for a 950Ah battery. Local garage quoted £105 for 850Ah NON-Landrover battery. Rang back landrover and asked if they could move on price and they did...... £120 for 950Ah battery.

Had that once every few starts.
I was thinking along the battery line, had it tested by dealer but battery checks out fine.
In another post it was mentioned that this might be solved by updating the rear-diff software. I suggested the dealer to update it and haven't seen the fault since.
If you have the rear locker it may be worth a try!

Went into Dealer yesterday and they have said it was caused by a faulty height sensor so replaced it. Have to wait and see if this has cured it. SOLD - 23my Range Rover Sport D300 Dynamic SE

Happened to me twice in the past. Turned to be the "rear diferential lock motor" and in the second time low compressor pessure buildup so I had to replace it.

The height sensor didn't fix my 'transmission error', 'special programmes not available' or 'HDC not available' messages so in to LR dealer again today.
This time they appear to have fixed using technical service bulletin LA308-001 - Software Update to Transfer Case Control Module.

Mine does still do this every so often.
My car is out of warranty now so would LR update the software FOC if it is a TSB issue?
Or would I have to pay?
Anyone know?

They might do it FOC if the car is in having a service, as i think they update to current versions all software to minimise faults and problems. If you ask at any other time i think you can probably expect to pay I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

I had the same. New battery solved it for me.
Do you wait till the system check is finished? That helped for me for a while too, till I got colder and colder. My G4 had to go to Nene Overland anyway for some waranty work. When I mentioned this they also changed the battery. Thanks Nene. Roel

The technical doc states its something to do with a clutch range check that fools the ECR into thinking there is a fault.
My dealer did free of charge as its only a software update. Very lucky I have two dealers near me that are fantastic at customer service (lakeland & kentdale). SOLD - 23my Range Rover Sport D300 Dynamic SE

just for info, same thing happened with mine, started first in cold mornings and then every few days cured with new battery. Went for the genuine one, bit pricey but seemed to be the best for the job. All problems gone
