It had to happen - I have lost the keys for the towing hitch. Fortunately the hitch was unlocked and I have removed it from the vehicle. I have been to the local dealer and they are unable to replace the key but have been able to get the "green handle" with a new set of keys for me at a very low price. I will just have to replace the green handle in the hitch - naturally the dealer does not know how to do it. I should be able to do it at a lower cost and in a more timely fashion - has anyone replaced or repaired the hitch lock. Any assistance appreciated

Bob
There was a thread in it but taken off due to security concerns (enables others to nick one off a vehicle)
Hopfully someone will be nice enough to PM you.

When I've tried I could only get the key out when it was in the locked position so well done! Cheers

Gareth - Thanks
Rob - Thank you for your kind offer. Will do the replacement thing and if it does not work will give you an urgent call. Would you please PM me your mobile number - I have misplaced it.

Hi, I don't know whether you have found a solution yet? I've been down this road and removed/replaced the 'lost key' towbar.
I posted the solution but it was removed for security reasons!
If you are still stuck I could email you privately with the solution?
Regards
Skipy

Lets be clear - the Security reasons related to me having my towbar stolen within days of the post appearing. When I went to the dealers 3 people in the last 48 hours had all reported stolen towbars. My dealer had never seen one stolen since launch, then 4 in 3 days - spooky.
Lets remember that helpful as it can be, this is a public forum. Anyone can drop-in for some hints whatever their intentions.
Needless to say, my location now points to my local police station !! "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

Wow! - didn't know this, 90! I think I was instrumental in the withdrawal of both posts, one by moderator and one by author, but I rather thought I was being an obsessive scaredy-cat - not my usual dashing, devil-may-care self - in pointing out the security risk. It is hard to credit how many s must be out there searching for info to produce results like that...

Hmmm but this IS an arms/info race. Keeping quite means presumably more detachables are left on vehicles where they are prone to be nicked wherever the information comes from (and the instructions are in every lock-and-key set that LR sell I assume).
Theivery was around before the internet, at least now owners can be made aware of the risk.... Cheers

Can't fault that argument in principle, but if 90's experience was replicated at every dealer in the UK (or world ) that would represent a thousandfold (-ish) increase in one particular theft mode, entirely due to one location of information.
I don't think any of us expected that... 2006 D3 finally swapped for a 2016 D4 Graphite in Graphite grey. No mods

I'm not saying it was just here . . .but spooky non the less
When I was building my rallying mini, several very expensive cars went missing, everyone had posted on Miniclassic and sure enough when they caught the guy, he had registered and 'fessed up in interviews that he was getting all the info he needed from the website.
Just being careful that's all. "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

Yep, but no need to make it easy for them "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."
