Towing electrics Discovery 4 |
|
Hi there, I have a D4 without electrics for towing. I have boight an aftermarket set off e bay and I have a couple of fitting questions.
1) What will happen when I disconnect the battery. Will I just need a radio code or is it a bit more complicated than that.
2) The instructions that came are all pictorial. It shows I have to remove both rear lights and fit a ‘jumper’ harness between the original plug and the light. Is this the usual way to do it?
3) I read that you need to reprogram the car to accept the new towing electrics. Can I drive the car and will the ordinary lights work ok untill I can get it to a dealer to have it reprogrammed.
Finally, can anyone show me a picture of how the tow bar is stored in the little cupboard on the left of the boot space. Mine is just loose and the only thing stopping it falling out its the outside skin of the car. I dont want to finish up with a dent in it.

Disconnecting the battery shouldn't cause any problems. You won't need a radio code. You probably don't really need to disconnect it.

Yes

The programming is only needed to make the car behave differently with the trailer attached (e.g. turn off the rear parking sensors, not change height automatically with the terrain response settings, not turn on rear fog lamps).

No picture, but it fits snuggly in a black polystyrene holder....that you obviously haven't got. MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added

you normally only have to remove the passenger side rear light to connect the wiring harness, but maybe your aftermarket one needs to connect to something in the right hand cluster too.

I guess so but I am a bit releaved non the less as I thought it would just connect to the 3 plugs in the rear lh little cupboard. So I guess these plugs are not for that and I dont feel so bad that I had bought a poor designed part. Discovery 4 3.0 HSE 2010 year. I like it a lot. Now with winch 😂

Oh. In that case I regret passing up the 2014 genuine part on e bay. Though I wasnt sure a 2014 would fit a 2010 Discovery 4 3.0 HSE 2010 year. I like it a lot. Now with winch 😂

Hi All,
Can anybody tell me if part number VPLAT0011 genuine LR tow bar electric kit will fit a 2016 Land Rover Discovery 4 3.0 SD V6 HSE Luxury (s/s) 5dr?
I have searched and some sites advise that they are only compatible up to 2014 model.
Regards
Paul I'm not as good as I once was........but I'm as good once as I ever was.

It isn’t. You need VPLAT0135 for 7-pin 2014 forward (starting VIN EA000001). VPLAT0011 is up to VIN DA999999.

The electrics in 0011 and 0135 are the same. The only difference is the later kits have a plastic connectors bracket in them for some reason. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

I retrofitted the electrics from a crashed 2007 into my 2013 without any issues other than having to buy the adaptor that goes inside the car itself. I can't comment on whether or not that part is different as the crashed Disco already had the body removed, so that bit was gone already
Mine did work straight away without any IID intervention - but as already said none of the trailer options will work without turning the option on 2013 Discovery 4 HSE Lux | 2001 Defender 90 TD5 | 2007 Prodrive RB320
