I'm having a moment of panic. The first page of towing instructions in the owners's manual state not to use a weight distributing tow hitch with this vehicle. But later, in the additional tow-bar instructions, there don't seem to be any prohibitions against this. The illustration in the beginning of the section (before the tow bar instructions) seems to show a different set-up.
Is it safe to assume that I CAN use a weight distributing hitch with the towbar installed? If not I just bought a very incapable vehicle. I have a Class III caravan (about 5500 lbs loaded) and it would be impossible to tow without weight distribution. In fact, it would seem that no one would want to tow anything weighing up to 7700 lbs with out weight distribution and brakes. That would be dangerous.[/b] '06 LR3 4.4 V8 HSE Heavy Duty package, Satellite Radio, Luxury Package

We dont tend to have weight distribution hitches in the UK, but in australia they do, so it might be worth asking one of our antipodean (i couldnt think of anything else polite given they've just won the ashes back) members.

Both of you who quoted links, thanks much. I tried to search for this on the site, but didn't have much luck. It seems that I will have to disable the weight distribution features of my hitch, and that this will be OK because of the self leveling features of the LR3. My trailer (caravan) dealer had me all excited the other day, as a weight distributing hitch system is all he is familiar with. And my trailer weighs at least 2500kg so it's not a light load. I towed a 5000lb offroad van and I used the WDH for a very short period I first got the van until I heard of a bloke whose tow bar snapped on his D3 due to the WDH fighting with the D3 self leveling air suspension, I removed the WDH immediately and then found that the van seemed to tow far better without it! In my opinion, take it off you will see that don’t need a WDH with an SE D3.
