Towbar - which one ?

I would like to fit a mountain bike carrier, have read all the threads about Thule etc. but which towbar do i need to use, have seen them advertised on e-bay etc but don't know which is the correct one to go for, I don't intend to tow so looking for the simplest solution ?

Unless you plan to get the LR bike rack (and I can't recommend it) which requires the multi-height one, just get the removeable tow ball. Either watch ebay or give Nick at Yeovil Land Rover a call for a discounted price.

The Land Rover Multi height allows you to bolt a carrier on, even leaving the tow ball off if you desire

Whatever price you may think cheap beware if you don't use a vehicle percific wiring kit it will ruin your engine management system .

It has been known around me that towbar fitters have bypassed the Disco electrics & blown up the engine management .

My advice cheap is not allways best.

Hear what your saying RugbyMan, but that price is for genuine & there's no good reason I can see for using anything other than the Genuine LR part. Thumbs Up

Witter are bringing out a new towbar that is removable but able to take bolt on bike racks, later this month.

i did buy a geniune removeable towbar off e-bay £180.

I then bought a Tradekar 3 bike rack from Roofbox.com. i bought one from their bargain basement. ie. been returned for £75.

used it Easter for a trip to Wales and everything worked well. no need for electrics as all lights are visible. i do have a picture but unsure how to put onto site !

in the same situation also. We have a Maxxraxx premium 4 bike carrier, and need a suitable Towbar for our soon to have D3.

Stealer whats over £500 for it (ripoff), anyone know if the Mutliheight one is suitable, and best place/price for it (and the lockable crossbars for roof rails to.)

Worth calling Nick??

regards
Gary

Witter or LR Towbar ?

Any one in the forum that have mounted the new towbar from Witter (R39) yet ? Any pros and cons vs. Land Rovers own? (Witter comes at 180 GBP on eBay, LR at 290+) I am just about to switch from std removable to a multi-height as my trailer demands 450 mm height.

Or fit one of these. I assume the bike rack can bolt on ?

Who is the manufacturer of this solid piece ? Looks like it could pull railway carts !

On the other hand it does not seem to have the plough properties that the others have…
