Towbar mounted luggage carrier e.g. Thule Easybag

Hi,

I'm looking into towbar mounted luggage carrying options for a trip. Does anyone have or has used a bag or box such as th Thule Easybag or Thule backup?

I already have a Thule 3 bike towbar rack. I was wondering if the Thule Easybag would fit on this even if its meant for its own Easybase. I only want to store clothing in it so it wouldn't be too heavy, certainly less than 3 bikes.

Any advice appreciated.

Chris

I followed someone with one of these recently, it looked reasonable and better than a topbox.

The chap was doing 80mph with it on the back of his Avensis or something like that.

If it works for you, it just looks like a mutated trailer....!!!

I'm thinking of maxing the luggage capacity and going for both the roofbox and back bag!

Brother has a Thule 3 bike towbar mounted rack (volvo branded) and just bought a Thule bag, should have gone on a easybase but works perfectly well according to him

Ferret
The Thule back up box comes with 4 u-clamps 2 at the back and 2 on the base which have knurled thumb screws for tightening.
Dont know about fitting it to the bike rack though !
But i do know you can get bike rack fittings for the easy base Very Happy

Great piece of kit, and if you get the Prospeed rack as well you will have no probs with storage Thumbs Up

Cheers

That Prospeed rack looks the business! Presumably luggage just straps down onto it? Any idea what sort of bags people use to keep luggage dry on a trip?

I have a Bakrak towbar mounted load platform with a couple of regular roof-mountable bike racks on it. Thinking of putting a Tesco garden box on it (£60).

United Kingdom 2010 Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 HSE Auto Santorini BlackDiscovery 4

Sorry for the thread resurrection..

I'm thinking of one of the easybases with some sort of bag / box but wondering what access there is to the disco's boot when the easybase is fully loaded.

I'd be travelling with my dog in the boot in his Trans K9 crate so while i'd have limited storage in the boot I'd need easy access to let him out and answer the call of nature etc.

i believe that there is some sort of tilt function but would this allow the lower tailgate to fully open?

if anyone has any experience that would be great.

thanks

Tim
