Can't help with the Thule rack unfortunately, but I was pleasantly surprised to find the tilt function on my Atera Strada bike rack allows for the lower tailgate to open fully, so hopefully the same applies to similar designs.Andy

Tim you can't open the bottom tailgate without removing it which only takes a minute MY18 D5 HSE LUX😎
