Tow Pack Options

Vehicle is due soon and I need to specify what version of tow pack/tow bar I want. Could someone please explain what different ones are available & the respective merits/demerits. I tried to look on the Landrover website but found it rather uninformative.

From what I know there is a swan neck removeable type or a fixed bar. The fixed one is multi-height so I guess gives more flexibility but the detachable one hides away and is neater and better if you are going off-road. Electrics hide away in a rear panel either way.

Thanks for that CFB,
Are there any pictures available of the different options? Does a demountable fixing have a lower load capacity than a bolted on item? What are the variables on ball height? This topic seems such an obvious question I am surprised that I couldn't find more specific information either on Landrovers website (in fact detail here was conspicuous by it's absence) or a trawl through the D3 archives (but that might be down to my poor search technique).

Whatever-I want to tow, not often but may be heavy when I do. I also think a fixed towball on the D3 will introduce a very modest departure angle.

I find I am unable to glean anything significant online regarding the D3 towball offerings so I may be completely wrong in thinking there is something to differientiate between the products offered though it does raise the question in my mind as to why is there such a paucity of information out there available online.

Any intelligence would be most welcome.

Cheers

Mike

Both options have the same load rating, the fixed version has the benefit of adjustable height and the ability to have different hitches

I use the American Quick Release Tow Hitch Receiver system which allows you to use different heights and ball sizes - see

http://www.landroverusa.com/us/en/Vehicles...Towing.htm

I got mine from a main dealer in Ireland - special order took 24 hours!!!

I ordered the US tow receiver unit and UK electrics which I fitted myself. I think i paid the main dealer about €300 for the bits.

As far as it being a plough - I wouldn't off road with it and it can be removed by simply turning a key.
