Tow bar removal
My Cousin has a 57 D3. It has the large tow bar. He wants to completely remove it and not have a towbar at all I've looked and the bracing bars are easy but can't see how to remove the central part which appears to be a part of the chassis.1955 SWB Series 1 86 inch

If it is a genuine LR tow bar this may help http://media.disco3.co.uk/ownerinfo/LR0057...height.pdfWhen you are dead, you do not know you are dead. All of the pain is felt by others. The same thing happens when you are stupid.

Thanks for that, but it only covers the main bars etc. He was wanting to totally remove everything. We have looked for the locking system that others have referred to, but it does not seem to be that type.
It actually looks like it is physically joined to the chassis tow loop. Is this possible ???1955 SWB Series 1 86 inch

If it's this bar, remove bolt "F" and tap bolt pin out from rear, it should then pull out, may need a bit of persuasion.L633 Defender

Thanks philm. That looks good. I was looking at it today. I will describe it. Forgetting all the stabilising bars and the ball etc. The big lump attached to the car chassis has a rubber Bung facing rear wards. And a bolt on top facing down into the hollow part.
Are you saying that there is something inside the Bung hole which needs removing ?
Then what
Many thanks for your help.1955 SWB Series 1 86 inch

On mine the bolt in vertical plane is removed after taking out the bung screw into the hole to draw out/release ball part.

don't forget spraying it with WD40 (lots of it !) as it will have probably seized, especially where the pin goes into the chassis mount at the rearWhen you are dead, you do not know you are dead. All of the pain is felt by others. The same thing happens when you are stupid.
