Tow bar electrics

I have a caravan which may well need towing when the weather picks up a little, but wanted to check the availability of the electric kits. I have seen some refer to 13S plugs but I think these are a later euro design rather than what I have on my caravan. My van uses twin electrics for charging of the van battery and running the fridge whilst on the move. It's now 10 years old and will be sold soon I'm sure. Stunning 5 berth if anyone interested, complete with all the best comforts like blown air central heating ,blinds and flyscreens etc.
Anyway, What I was thinking is this, is it better to upgrade the caravan plugs to the new system and fit the 13S kit to my D3?
Or have I missed the point entirely and you can't get anything but the new style electrics for my D3?
Think I'm answering my own question as I type.
If I go for the old plug, does this mean that I'd be out of step with everything else that could be towed?
If I wanted a trailer for instance, would a hired one have new 13S plugs?
I'd rather have something which will give me some flexibility in the future.
Your thoughts as ever are appreciated.

If I were you I would stick with the 12N & 12S electrics. I can't think of any caravan or trailer that comes fitted with the single 13 pin socket, as far as I am aware it is only fitted to some new cars (volvo in particular) and everyone that I have seen, the owners have had to make up a 13 pin to 12N & 12S conversion lead.

Jumping the gun by the sound of it then. I just assumed that all the eurobabble boys would have made it a regulation by now.
So the 12N and 12S plug/socket system is still current?

As I said I don't think any UK caravan or trailer manufacturer fits a 13 pin socket. They are probably fitted to some continental caravans, but I have only ever seen them fitted to cars (which then have to use an adapter cable). I would stick with the 12N & 12S sockets and if you ever had to tow atrailer with a 13pin socket you can make an adapter cable to suit it.
