Tow bar electrics
A LR dealer recently told me that after fitting a tow bar and electrics kit to a Disco 3 that the electrics/ computer had to be re-gigged. Does anyone have experience of this - Is it necessary - know whats involved? If it is necessary what cost is involved and does it have to be carried out by a dealer?
Cheers
It does not say anything about that in the fitting instructions

AFAIK,
Once a plug has been attached to a correctly fitted/enabled towing electrics the necessary ECUs will remap/adjust as required and revert back when the plug is removed - it should be dynamic. The M-Power Express

The electrics work fine without a remap (although the dealers will tell you it's absolutely necessary so they will have to do the job rather than DIY....).
The only thing it affects is the PDC - deactivates when reversing with something plugged into the electrics.

Mine did that anyway without having it activated. According to the LRA guy who I asked, he didn't think it would make any difference apart from restricting ride height.

I did a DIY job in fitting the electrics, without recofiguring anything - as Shiny says, there's nothing in the instructions to suggest a requirement. No problems since fitting, and merrily towing my trailer full of firewood all over the countryside
DIY job is very easy. The re-programming is totally unnecessary as it only does what others have said above. Nothing 'critical' involved except wallet lightening at stealers - therefore they consider it to be important. The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

What i always tell people i fthey buy their elecs from me is
if you go into a dealers and say"Please configure my towbar elecs" they will glady relieve you of some hard earned.
If you ask at time of service of if in for warranty work then since it's highly likely they will have to connect to ids anyway they would hopefully do it for nowt....some do...some don't.

As the Large one says, nice to have it done, but ask at service - was free for me. I will stand corrected but I believe the actual function that is disabled is the auto height change for various TR modes when in low-ratio. If in high ratio the TR doesn't auto adjust suspension height anyway.
You still retain full manual control of height after the upgrade anyway . . . ."To finish first, one first has to finish ...."
