Tow bar costs
Want to get tow bar fitted to carry bike rack
I see removable ones on the bay for £110 up
What costs should I expect for getting electrics fitted ?
Car does have the Tow Assist thingy option so does that mean electric are there and just bar itself is missing ?D4 HSE - Aintree Green

No, i think tow assist assists with braking etc.
Easiest way though is to pop red cover off, especially if second hand. Also dig deep in cubby holes in rear to see if there is actually already a bar there !MY2023 Discovery 5 R-Dynamic 3.0

GlosBoy, if you've got the Tow Assist Package I'd be very suprised if you don't have the electrics already wired in. Take off the quick release closeout panel on the rear bumper and look underneath. You should have either 13 pin or 7 pin sockets. I'd also be looking for the removable towbar. On the five seat version it should be stored under the rear floor, on the seven seat version it'll be in the rear left quarter stowage.

Thanks and my thoughts too
Dealer did stick his hand in the left hand bin and couldn't find it but could easily see that could have been taken
Will take proper look when I pick it up at the weekend D4 HSE - Aintree Green

I'm interested in this too. What are the good after market options? My dealer gave me the normal chat about warranty impact / no value on trade in etc if I didn't use them to fit one.

When I got my 62 plate D4 used from a dealer the tow bar disappeared between viewing the car and picking it up. Clearly the dealer had swapped it onto another car in the hope I didnt notice.
After a bit of a debate I got a new tow bar supplied by the dealer
I would argue that if they advertised the car with towing electrics and towing assistance it is not unreasonable to assume that a tow bar would be with the car and therefore if it isn't there when you look at it ask for one .
I am sure if you dig your heels in a refuse to take the car one will appear very quickly either new or swapped from another car on the forecourt

I just got a quote from my dealer ahead of collecting my car
Detachable tow bar £516
Electrics £263
Didn't say if that was including or excluding VAT.
They charge like an angry bull

Picked up car yesterday
Dumb question - if I look underneath there is a red plastic cover
Do I remove this to see if there is a connector and electrics installed?D4 HSE - Aintree Green

The red plastic cover you remove to fit the detachable tow bar in.
Remove the panel above it in the bumper, if electrics are fitted you will find the socket behind that cover.
If it has the electrics fitted, check behind the near side cover in the boot, the detachable tow bar is normally stored behind that panel.
There's are two twist lock 'buttons' to undo, 1/4 turn on each, 2p piece useful to undo

Hi all recently purchased a 2014 with no tow bar. 100 for swan neck from disco3 member. 250 for 13. Pin electrics fitted including programming at dealer. 70 for towbar storage unit fitted free by dealer. Therefore 420 all in. The storage is not necessary but on reflection if the worst happened and the car turned over I wouldn't want a towbar flying through the car like a missile.2014 Discovery 4 HSE 2014, 2007 Vogue TDV8 Epson Green/Sand, 2008 Vogue TDV8 Buckingham Blue/Sand, Discovery 3 HSE 2006, 2003 Vogue 4.4 LPG Epsom Green/Sage, 1998 Vogue SE 4.6 LPG Epsom Green/Cream

Got the dealer to fit 13 pin electrics to mine when I bought it for £150 including VAT. Got a price for the electrics (supply only) from Dan via this forum & let the dealer know what this was then asked if he could do supply & fit for £150 - he said yes
I then sourced a second hand fixed tow bar for £100 & fitted it myself.
Total cost £250.
Just make sure the dealer enables the towing electrics so that you get full trailer stability & the reverse sensors turn off when you have the electrics connected.D4 - Stornoway Grey
