Hello Everyone

I all its going to cost me over 1000€ , i also want o know which is the best one to have fitted the fixed or removable one.
i am going to drive to england hopefully this summer, will be going to near leeds could i get the work done any cheeper there and still get a certificate that would be valid for here in spain.
thanks in advance to any help.

Hi LANDY
the removable ones are about £125 on ebay at the moment. Abviously they dont need fitting as the just plug in
The adjustables are about £300 maybe a bit less. These need to be fitted, but its a 10 mins job if you know what you are doing. I learnt the hard way , but you could do it yourself and myself and others here would be pleased to help....
I tow a 7m boat 2000Kgs and a 8m caravan 2000Kgs with the swan neck type and dont have any problemsDuncan

I have the plug-in tow ball and it works for my uses - mainly for carrying a bike rack and occasional trailer tugging. I like the way that I can just take it off when not required.
I ordered the electrics kit and fitted it myself (took about an hour and a half). I bought the removable tow-ball from ebay for 150 it just plugs right into the ready made adapter that you should already have.
Since the car already comes prepared for the removable towbar would you really need a certificate ? All you are doing is plugging in a towbar into an existing mounting ?

yes sorry
ThatMartinChap makes agood point. I forgot about the electrics. However, knowing what i know now having taken everything to bit electrics would probably take about a couple of hours, may be less with some advice from people here Duncan

tow balls
Thanks a lot but i still have the problem of needing a certificate and also the cables for the electrics.
the certificate mainly as the spanish authorities require a certificate to say the job was done properly and then an MOT to varify. but it still sound the best option and as far as the certificate goes i think i might have to make friends with a dealer that will issue me with one.

Land Rover must already have a certificate for this as standard. You are not fitting an aftermarket kit, you are fitting the std LandRover supplied kit. The receiver is an integral part of the Chassis , look under your bumper in the middle & you will see a red peice of plastic in teh receiver hole (or you will see the hole if the pplastic is not there).
I would imagine that the required certification is already in the manual?
Speak to a spanish LR dealer, they shoiuld be able to point you in the right direction. Bodsys Brake Bible

Same here on the certificate. Bought mine the D3 from the dealer, fitted (pushed in) the removable TB and then fitted the electrics. Then I had to go back to the dealer for him to inspect, sign it off and then he had to take it for an inspection. On the Swiss grey card (V5) it is now stated as having a TB. Pain in the but unavoidable. Didn't cost me anything as I had it all done at the time of first registration. Also the TB and electrics came from my old D3 that I just de-installed, so in the end only cost me 2 hours of lying on the floor with the tool box.Mrs Jones ? We've come for your Liver

I also bought my detachable towbar and electrics from ebay and fitted them myself - about an hours and a half for the electrics. As others have said, I would have thought that no additional certificate would be required when the whole point of the design on the car is to easily add or remove the towbar
