Touring through UK whilst picking up some

Hi Everyone,

I have bought a expo roof rack in Salisbury and an A-bar in Bittern (Southampton). I would like to pic them up in may or June. As I need to pick-up my two shoulder mounted stag's in Scotland (nearby Inverness) to. I would like to make a complete and nice trip of it for 4-5 days together with my girlfriend and my D3. It does not have to be the shortest route but would not like to travel more than 6 hours a day so my girlfriend can enjoy it to.

Do you have some tips or routes I definitely have to take and are worth seeing?

START- Dover
- Btterne (Southampton)
- Salisbury (Wiltshire)
- Inverness
STOP- Dover

Thank you !!

Edit: changed the amount of hours in the car as I see that the fasted route would take 23 hours of driving.

Given your very limited time, from Salisbury I'd head North and keep going up the M6*, don't stop until you get to the Lake District. That's worth a stopover/explore. Then up the A74. Once you get to the Scottish central belt, head north west (through Glasgow and up the A82 past Loch Lomond to Fort William) and then on up the Great Glen to Inverness. Return via the A9, Perth, round Edinburgh and then follow the coast on the A1 South. If the tide times allow, visit Holy Island. South of Newcastle there's nothing much to stop for, given your time constraints Just keep on down the A1 / M1 / M11.

* Beware the M5/M6 around Birmingham at busy times - it can get very congested.

Hi Thank you !!

So my route should look like this (more or less).

I have 3 or 4 night I will sleep in UK. One of it is definatly in Inverness, do you have any specific suggestions for the other three and where or when to put them?

Regards

Jonas

Accommodation really depends on what you are after.
We do the run up the M6 regularly and, if travelling with the family (I don't bother stopping anywhere when other than food/fuel if it's just me!), we tend to use the Holiday Inn at Lancaster.
It isn't anything to write home about but it's a stone's throw from the M6, is fairly inexpensive and you can have a swim & sauna to revive a bit.
Reckon on about 7 hours to Inverness without undue stops, although you may well want to stop and admire the view over Rannoch Moor and Glencoe.
The burgers and coffee at Luss Car Park (Second exit for Luss when heading north - Luss Village is a good place to stretch the legs as well) are nice, and the chilli burger is guaranteed to wake you up!

Fill up at the BP station after the Erskine Bridge and the Esso when going through Inverness. Fuel at motorway services is about 10ppl more.

If you weren't staying in Inverness I'd recommend you stay at ours. Smile
