Would you buy new £850
Or would you buy a remanufactured torque converter @ £450
And where would be the best place to buy one
Answers on a post card please

I would buy a genuine, new one. It’ll be known good. I think this could be different in U.K. as you have companies which are specialized in repairing/reconditioning TCs. Here my options would be JLR dealer, Indy (who would source it from JLR...) or ZF.

Just be aware the TC is not always the fault, it is the result of a fault, the fault being the GB input shaft seals, let me explain, wear on the GB input shaft causes the input shaft seals to fail, this results in lack of oil pressure to operate the clutches properly which results in clutch slip, judder, oil contamination, oil overheating(burnt black GB oil) and of course a ruined TC.
The moral is don’t change the TC without checking and changing these input shaft seals and bushes or you will be doing the job again in a few weeks when the new TC starts juddering
p.s. BT will not change a TC without doing the above It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Don’t know where you are in the North East but try BA transmissions In Keighley. They did mine about 2 years ago. Drove down there from Scottish Borders and booked a hotel for the night. They need the car for two days. Cost me about £450 but think the prices may have gone up. They swap yours for a refurb and to be fair did a decent job. Just a thought but were decent with me and the car stopped juddering from then on. James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

I can endorse the above, BA Transmissions know their stuff and keep a stock of TCs, but there is more than one type fitted in a D3 and they do not stock them all, if you have access to an Iid tool it can tell you which type is fitted to yours and they will then have one in stock ready to fit. Toni I would just take it back to whoever you bought it from quickly and get it sorted. Just make sure they don’t chuck some dr tranny in it and say they have fixed it. If you have the judder it needs sorting quickly as it doesn’t do the gear box any good long term. James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.
