DIY fitting towing electrics ? |
|
Just collected a brand new shiny D3 HSE (Tonga Alpacca) for the wife. Exchanged our old TDv6 S Auto which now has 46,000 miles and don't think she has been cleaned inside or out since she was new in November 2004. Could have planted roses in the muck on and inside that car (kids, dogs, wife who doesn't care ....).
Anyway, I digress, the only thing missing is the tow bar electrics (I kept the tow bar from the old one but no electrics on new one). I am sure I have seen a posting about how to fit these, but cannot now find it - can anyone point me in the right direction please ?
BTW, got a great deal on the HSE, so she cost less than £2.5k more than the S spec cost when bought almost 3 years ago, and got £19k trade in for a vehicle that has had a very hard life (but been very reliable).
One further comment, we treated ourselves to a full rubber mat for the boot - I ordered without asking the price, which was stupid. £135 is frankly a take for what is simply a sheet of rubber with a land rover logo on it Disco 4 TDV6HSE

Excuse me, but why 'for the wife'???
Is this not good enough for you also??
Please tell your wife she has exceptionally good taste.

Ron, I was so impressed by the D3 when we got it in Nov 2004 that I ordered a RRS (TDv6) ! Glad I did as the D3 is a brilliant family car (that does pretty much everything you want it to do). The RRS is (IMHO) an inferior car in many ways (less clever design features, not nearly as flexible, has an image problem at times etc etc) but I still couldn't quite get my brain around having two D3's on the drive. So the RRS filled the gap left by getting rid of my previous Merc.
The RRS has now been replaced by a TDv8 which is a superb daily drive. But the D3 remains my weekend car (bikes, dogs, kayaks, fishing gear, walking boots, friends and family plus the occassional green lane) whilst the wife finds the D3 perfect for the school run during the week (she takes 5 kids 25 miles to and from school - and no they aren't all ours !). The only thing we got wrong on the D3 first time around was we under spec'ed it (bear in mind I ordered blind in the spring of 2004 when the car didn't yet exist) and ended up with cloth seats. This time we ticked more boxes.
As for getting a great deal. Well this site was instrumental in that. Just asked on here for quotes about 2 months ago, then asked my dealer (who I have used for many years and in all honesty wouldn't go anywhere else) if they could match (or at least get pretty close to) the best quote.
