Off road at Peckforton Castle. Land Rover Experience.

August Bank Holiday Monday, set off to Peckforton Castle in Cheshire, to the Land Rover Experience Inaugural Drive Your Own Day. I've done this at LRE Eastnor and had a Great time, you never quite know if you are wasting money going to another venue, in case it doesn't match up to expectations though.
I wasn't disappointed, we arrived at 9 for a 09:30 start for the off roading. Tea, coffee and biscuits awaited our arrival. After a safety briefing, we went to our vehicles, a fair assortment, a couple of Disco 1's, a Freelander 1 & a Freelander 2, a bunch of Defenders and my D3. The LRE team had an Evoque and 2 Defenders, a nice TDci and a totally electric Defender 110 Safari which was a surprise.
We all set off from the car park to the hills and woods around he Castle, there were great tracks with big ruts and roots and rocks sticking out, steep incline and declines, 45* angles, deep water, lots of mud and everything you could wish for. The morning passed quite quickly as we were having a great time. We stopped to admire views a couple of times which were spectacular.
Lunch was served at the Castle, a lovely Buffet, and plenty to go at, and refreshments. After 45 minutes we were all ready to go out and play for the afternoon.
It's fair to say, there have been new routes opened up and made available to LRE around the estate, and there are thousands of acres to explore.
So we set off on fresh trails and saw more views, stopped at a slightly more extreme spot which has the bomb hole and some nice ruts etc to cross your axles, the Defender boys particularly enjoyed this. In the afternoon we encountered some walkers, all whinging and having little unfavourable comments about dying of carbon monoxide poisoning, I'd have happily let them breath my exhaust fumes.
In summary, I learned a bit about my D3, I definitely have more confidence in its ability, I was blown away by how well it performed, better than my Defender at Eastnor for sure. The course has been well thought out and best of all, I drove away with my motor in one piece, even though there was plenty of mud to show. The LRE staff were all helpful and I think enjoyed the day like the rest of us.
A great day.
If in doubt, It's time for a Cuppa.

Sounds fantastic. Are they all a whole day like this? I might take a look at one of these LRE events in the South East. How much did you pay?

Hi Chaps,
The LRE Drive your own days are all day experiences, I'm only aware of Eastnor (malverns), and Peckforton Castle, Cheshire who do these days. I'm hoping all the other experiences will learn from these two and offer up sensible off road days where you don't generally break your vehicle and you actually learn something about your car and green laning.
It's a Great day out, well worth the money, the instructors are all extremely knowledgable too.

Regards
Andy

Have been to Peckforton a few times and it is a great venue. The staff are spot on and the new trails are great. Plus it's a fantastic setting.

Shouldn't do as it is not a password protected site but agree link does ask for one.
Try typing in lroac.com directly and it should work.

or you could try

http://lroac.com/Calendar.html

and navigate around the site from there. Next date at Rockingham is 12th October.
