Hi All,
My Warranty on my 2006 TDV6 expires next month (Jan 13), so I am woundering if its worth doing the services from now on by myself,or continue with the dealer, or even half / half. Is there others out there that do their own servicing, and if so where would be the best place to purchase filters, sump plug, etc.
Thanks in advance

I do most of the basic stuff myself and contract out the more technical stuff. All Four x 4 in Kotara sell filter packs for about $140.
Basic servicing and work on the car is very easy - the complex stuff is if something fails. Also most dealers do software updates when they work on an assembly and you do not get that when you do your own work - however you can pay the dealer for software updates.
My car has now done 72,000km and has never been to a dealer for its services - even when it was under warranty (I didn't own it then).
You will need the service schedule and a workshop manual - and will need to do services on the diffs, transfer case and gearbox at about 1/3 of the interval listed in the service schedule.

Do the filters and oil yourself, plently of help on this forum how to access filters and bleed fuel.
You will need to reset service indicator, again plenty of options. I bought one from Black Box site sponsor.
And think of all the money your going to save.
Anything I am unsure about goes to local independant.

Thanks All.
The disco after 7 years has only got 35,000km, so not even run in,lol. Have owned 4 classics, 1 p36, and now disco, and almost finished a 48 shorty, so have had a bit to do with land rovers, and yep I do have the computer to diagnose any problem. So prob do a 50/50. And I know the oil is expensive, but so is the coolant.lol

Another question. The oil to use is Castrol Edge Pro 5W-30, but when I seach for this oil, there are many different types, such as A5, C1, etc. So which is the correct for 2006 Discovery turbo diesel.

The one I get here has a Ford logo on it
Also, make sure you use genuine LR fuel filters if you're going to change that yourself. Lots of people reported problems with pattern ones, inc me.

I had a 2006 2.7 litre TDV6 LR3 and always used Castrol EDGE 5-30. When my car was new this was the recommended oil on the Land Rover and Castrol website for Australia. Over the years the recommendation has been changed but I can't see why the original recommended oil shoudn't be used in that years car. I usd it in mine until I traded it in a year ago and it was in perfect running condition. I changed the oil on the 6 month cycle. Castrol EDGE 5-30 is still available just about everywhere.

Well it did have the 4.6L v8 in it that was one of the worse motors land rover did build , so yep, should have kept the 4.0L v8.

Just checked Castrol website and it still recommends Castrol Edge 5W-30 A3/B4 or Castrol Edge 0W-40 A3/B4 for 2005/6 LR3 TDV6.
Recommendation changes to CASTROL MAGNATEC PROFESSIONAL A5 5W-30 for 2007/9 LR3 TDV6 without DPF.
I have never been able to work out what changed between 2006 and 2007?

Thanks All.
Next question, which services are the big ones, that may need a dealer to do, and which are the minor one, which I can do, and save.

Hi Barry - that is when the EURO IV motor came in - and changed the requirements.
Castrol are annoying me with their naming convention. Eg. Castrol Magnatec here is dino oil... in UK it is synthetic.
