Reversing camera retrofit on 08 D3 XS?
Hi
Having a toddler I am finding myself hitching up the caravan single handed these days as my wife generally has her hands full.
I was thinking a reversing camera a la D4 may help.
I have a D3 XS with nav, is it possible to retrofit a LR reversing camera and have it visible on nav screen? If so, any idea on cost of parts and where to source?
Due to the aforementioned toddler and a hectic work schedule time is at a premium, any recommendations of where I could get this done in the North East?
Cheers
Andy

You need a gvif media module and reversing camera.
Most people get them from hids4u

Just fitted my GVIF from hids4u works great, it does suffer with light pollution from the number plate lights at night though but I can live with that no problem.
There's quite a few ways of doing it, depends if you want it just for hitching up or reversing in general. Do a search and have a read through the threads.

Thanks for the info so far.
Simoniz I saw your PM, cheers will prob be in touch in due course
Tufty,
When you say there are a few ways of doing it how do you mean?
I have the rear parking sensors which are adequate for general reversing and I want to keep these in place and working
I'm really just after a camera to help me reverse onto the hitch when towing without anyone to guide me on.
Sounds like the GVIF and a small camera in the tailgate handle is the way ahead?
Realistically how easy is it to fit? I am no auto electrician! Does it need 'enabling'?
Gotta say that I dont have reversing sensors but with the camera I fitted I now can reverse and park the D3 very accurately indeed

Tail gate camera won't show tow ball you will need a camera lower down for that.

Ah! That puts a spanner in the works. Thanks for that.
So is there an option? I am sure I've seen folks mention a rear view camera for using when hitching up?

You can put a camera in the bumper, I'm going to put a second camera in where the towing socket is pointing at the tow ball all controlled by the GVIF. Quite a simple job but I have to admit I was a bit daunted by the thought of doing it, turned out to be very straight forward. Just waiting for the second camera to arrive then next step install TV/DVD
I can just see my ball (Tow!) in my reversing camera which is one from HIDS - though I do have a spacer and an Alko ball, so does sit slightly further out than most.
Though it is still quite hard to see on gravel and grass wierdly enough.Mark.

I've mounted a blackvue on the rear window. Works perfect for everyday use and then when I want to hook up the trailer i just turn it round.
Perfect view of tow bar for an automated hook up

If you had done a search for example 'camera' you would have stumbled across this and plenty of other threads

Yep, should be just about visable - I'm going to put some bright paint or something similar on the top of the ball, to try and make it a bit more visable Mark.
