Hi all,
My first post on this site as I just bought my very first Landy and am a very happy chappy. Unfortuntely though I'm having problems. When going up steep hills, the car shudders when it gets up to around 40km/h. The only way to stop it from doing so is to push on to 50 or slow down. This doesn't happen on relatively flat roads though.
I spent quite a while searching and reading about it on this forum (great forum so by the way) and it seems to be a fairly common problem.
The general advice seems to be to double flush the autobox oil. As the car is on 192k km I thought that may be the problem, but I have just been told by the LR dealer that the gearbox was double flushed less than 2 weeks ago. They want me to bring the car in to troubleshoot and as a result they may need to take the gearbox apart.
So, my questions are:
Is this standard procedure? Taking the gearbox apart.
Is it possible they only changed the oil and that another flush could cure this problem?
How much do these boxes normally cost to replace if the problem is a terminal one?
Thanks in advance.

In the end the problem was that the clutch packs were worn out. ZF rebuilt the gearbox and all is fine now.

Did this require new/recon Torque Converter and a gearbox rebuild? Or was it just the friction pads in the TC that were shot? Interested because at some stage I am sure I will need the same. 2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.
