Transmission Range Change not Available and Cruise Control |
|
The Gremins are back
After suffering the parking brake fault and a corroded cable, my car has now started displaying "Transmission Range Change not available" each morning I start the car (regardless of the outside temperature - today was 7degreesC).
Sometimes this is replaced with 'DSC switched Off'.
On Saturday, the Cruise Control system didnt work at all, but next day was fine. CC is disabled if in low range so it may be linked with a missing signal or something.
Will let you know what the garage says this time !

I'd really like to find out what is causing this - like you I loose teh cruise control every few days (it gives a beeping warning!) & then after betwen 1/2 and one day it comes back to life! Now today, the front parking sensors are doing the same (beep + a warning message in the lcd screen) but theuy come back on at odd times after a restart, then fail again.

The cause of my faults is a low battery voltage. When put onto the test book, the system has recorded multiple missing messages, due, they believe to the voltage being out of spec. This can also cause misscommunications with the test book and corrupt software upgrades.
New Battery guess.
By the way, disk 7.5 is out there !

Spoke too soon.
Ok so the battery was replaced BUT last Saturday, the cruise control decided to have a rest for the day. No error messages (so probably no record in the control unit) and no other symptoms
This is really annoying because my TD5 had an intermittent cruise control fault that took 3years to track down (you can only really trace and fix an intermittent problem when you can see the fault in action !)
Will let you know.....

Did you every locate the cause of the cruise control issue? Mine is intermittently stating that cruise control is disabled.
Thanks,
David

G'Day DiscoMad &dbregman,
I notice,db, that your D3 is an 05. DM what year is your's?
I had/ have probs. with DSC, SRS and cruise control that was traced to the "clockspring" electrical connexion in the steering wheel. This seems to be a common problem and many on this site have had their "clocksprings" changed by the dealers F.O.C. under warranty.
Cheers,
David. Did you think I would leave you crying,
When there's room in my D3 for 7,
Climb in here Joe we'll soon be flying,
I can go just as fast with 7.

The low voltage can also be caused by a bad battery earth which mine had and it displayed the same fault as "Range Change Unavailable" and "TR unavailable".
The loss of CC could be a result of a faulty Steering Rotational Connector which is what REDDISCO says. The fault I had was the SRS Warning light kept coming on.

PCH - I see you too have the ARB bumper (with winch I assume). My problem started after installing the bumper and winch. I am wondering if the tie in to the battery is causing the issue. Did your problem start after installing the winch?
Thanks,
David
