Talking of wading.............

The D3 brochure shows a picture of the water at the recommended wading depth but this is well above the door opening. Are the door seals so good that they keep out water or do you have to accept wet carpets when wading at these depths?

This is the ford I cross on the way to work most days

Normal day it's this deep

After average rain it's this deep

After last nights rain I decided not to cross it today

Many years ago I went to an off road event at High Wycombe in Herts, the off road course was great fun with a choice to attempt obsticles or not. I chose to try everything which included wading through water traps. At the time I had a Toyota Landcruiser 4.2 TD VX and had the water within 6" to a foot of the windows!
I only found out afterwards that any higher and I would have sucked water into the air intake and blown my motor big time. The point being that there wasn't the slightest dampness inside the car, and I mean bone dry. So airtight are these cars that I always open a window when the kids get out of my D3 to avoid them trying to slam the door closed, and the reason for this is that the last door closed compresses the air inside the car and it acts like a buffer which leaves the door ajar.
Have no fear, the water stays outside where it should.

Slimer surely you have to buy a snorkel for your D3 if you come across this type of thing on your daily travels?

OK if its dead calm... but I BET there is a nice strong current flowing out there in the middle.

Nearly lost mine (back end started to go) on a ford at the back of ours that was not too deep to cross but fast flowing.... last time I try that Shocked

ISTR that there is something in the manual about not remaining stationary in water above the level of the sills "or severe electrical damage will result" Shocked

I think it says that the engine should be switched off and the car towed out of the water!

Is this just a LR disclaimer in case anyone blows something up, or is there a real risk of causing "severe electrical damage"? If this is a reason not to stop in water, is there also a risk of something dreadful at low speeds?

Apparently there's another ¼ mile long one just round the corner here that varies from 8" to 4' deep but I think it's been closed, will have to investigate soon
