I was surprised to find, on hitching up the 'van for the first shakedown tow with the new car, that the breakaway cable will fit through the slots at the side of the removable towbar. The whole clip (the standard one fitted by Swift) is just small enough to fit up through the hole, twist to allow the ring through, then double back on itself to clip back on to the cable.
I've heard all the warnings about not just clipping it on (it isn't strong enough - there's an uprated one you can buy to do that) but was surprised that it wasn't necessary. The clip fits through the hole and there's plenty of room to loop it back on itself.
I was expecting to have to buy a longer cable to loop through the towing eye, but it wasn't needed. You can tell LR take towing seriously. "The quality remains long after the price has been forgotten." Henry Royce

When I first towed our ageing Senator 5000 with the D3, I too didn't think the clip looked small enough to fit through the hole, but was pleasantly surprised when it did!
Towing is such a breeze with these wonderful machines! 2006 D3 S (I use it when I can prise the keys off the wife!)
2009 Astra CDTi SXi ecoflex (I use this when I can't!)
