2013 D4. Climate control gets colder and colder... |
|
I have just completed my first really long trip in the D4. We have been doing the 3 Peaks challenge, Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and finally Snowdon. We didn't fancy doing it in 24 hours because that would be stupid, so we did it in 3 days instead and had a few beers on the way.
However, driving the D4 with 5 people on board and luggage exposed a potential problem. After a while, the passengers were all complaining that they were getting cold. Indeed, the car was blowing cold air out of the face vents. This was with the temp controls set to 21 or 22 which are my normal comfort levels. We ended up having to crank it up to 23 to stop it blowing so hard. Then after another hour or so, they would be cold again, so up it went again until we were running it set to 25 degrees on both sides, yet the car was still blowing chilly air out of the face vents.
The answer we found was to manually override the system, and set the fan to position 1, and the temp to 23. This seemed to stop the gale blowing out of the face vents.
The outside air temps this weekend have varied between 10 and 16 degrees, so its not been particularly warm or sunny.
I get the impression that the car is always trying to cool itself down inside, it feels like its not getting the message that its reached its target temp. Anyone else getting this?

Sounds like a job for that little temp sensor sock like on the D3.

Yes I thought about that, surely they have sorted that on the 4, but I suppose its something to check for. I was more interested to see if any other D4 owners had experienced a similar thang.

If I'd known I was going to be so thirsty this morning I'd have drunk more beer last night.

Was it very bright? On my D3 I get the same problem unless I put something over the light sensor next to the centre surround speaker on the dash, then it works as it should.. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

It was not what I would call a heatwave, but it was bright.
I'm going to put a thermometer in the car tomorrow and see what temp it is actually at.

Strangely,I noticed a similar thing today ...I always have the controls set to manual (ie not auto)...I quite like the interior cool so on a day like today (18c) I had the temp set to 16....however,I wanted a bit of circulating fresh air also,so opened the sunroof to "tilt"....within a minute or so the fan had cranked itself up,and was blasting frigid air into the cabin....if its not on "auto" with the A/C off how can that be ?.....I checked the fan speed control, and according to the illuminated dial, and it never went above one light on.... "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

What you might find is that if the sun is shining into the cabin in "Auto" mode , the sun sensor will compensate for the natural radiant heat and reduce the temperature to the facial vents in the cabin despite what is being requested from the dials .....this is fine for the front seat passengers but is can eventually become uncomfortable for those that the sun isn't shining on in the back 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
