Robbie's Tree Sliders - Top Tips & Final Pictures

Looking to fit tree sliders tomorrow.

Anyone got any instructions, top tips or even good torque settings for all the M8 fasteners?

A) they're heavier to put in place than you think
B) no really, they're frickin heavy!
C) get someone to help or use a jack
D) make sure all the screw holes are clean and clear of crud before you fix
E) put plenty of copper grease in the Hole and around the screw to stop them rusting in (yes, I know they're stainless)
F) get out and put them to the test Thumbs Up

Thanks Ian,

The weight is quite incredible so planned on the ruuber-topped jack and perhaps the help of the wife. Will look to apply liberal amounts of copper-grease too.

Do I only need to remove the single long bit of trim per side and the stickers covering the screw holes or does anything else need to be removed or un-plugged?

As for the torque settings for the fasteners I note that the LR instructions for the steps list them at 22Nm - this seems really low so perhaps a higher setting say 28Nm, which is the typical book figure for flat socket heads?

Robbie, these are for Prospeed sliders, but good enough:

But don't remove the trim from door bottoms!!

Thanks Ron,

Reading that I'll add covering the left-over holes from the retaining clips to the list. I'm sure I will have some insulation/ducts/bodge/black-nasty tape somewhere.

I used a trolley jack with a piece of plywood on top, I drilled a hole the size of the jack top to stop it sliding.
Worked a treat.

Well they are on and I am very happy with the look.

Broke every little yellow plastic clip and in my haste to re-tape the holes on one side (used too much silver tape and was visible, so switch to a smaller application of black tape) that I forgot to tape the holes on side at all - doh! Wrecked one allen head but it came out with the cordless impact and as Ron had sent me 2 spare fasteners I just replaced it.

Washed the car afterwards so here are the pictures:

Nothing fully to the side - this pic is the limit of my travels:

The MY13 HSE alloys are an acquired taste. They do look better in the flesh but they will never be a D3/D4 design classic. East to clean though.

Final shot, shame the sun went in as it looked epic. I use Aquawax when I dry the car with a big car towel and I am pleased with the shine and how quick and easy it is.

Robbie, I don't know how long you're going to keep the D4, but I've got quite a bit of bubbling paintwork on the cills of my 06 D3. The plan is to sort the rust, then either Denso-tape the cill or waxoyl it before the slider goes back on Thumbs Up
