my money is still on the fuel pressure valve. Same symptoms, car would run (sometimes for days, and a few hundred miles), but then one day, comeing home on the M40, limp home mode every few mins. I brought it home on the recovery truck, even then I drove it on on off again.

New HPF pump fitted, been fine ever since.

PS - there are 2 versions of the HPF pump - Euro 3 and Euro 4, and they are very different, so if it is this, make sure you get the right one.

i am also close to this fault.

question: "HPF" is the acronym for what?

and you did change the hpf pump, not the valve, right?

rail pressure sensor was not the cause?

thank you for clearifying.

cheers

I'm also confused by this, in two comments you say it was the valve and all was fixed but then above you mentioned replacing the pump. Can you clarify?

@lukeis, the valve is part of the high pressure pump, you can not buy it separately.

yesterday as i was driving bam limp mode, lights on, big F on the screen. Plug the car in again P0087!!!!!!

now back to square one. anyone with any clue on what to look?

Fuel filter is good place to start, then check fuel pressure at the schrader valve at the top of the engine - then possible use the LP fuel pump testing guide to make sure the low pressure fuel pump is really working.

but that is exactly my dead end. filter has less than 2kmiles, pressure at the valve is less than 7psi on ignition and 6 when car is on.
LPFP was changed with the HPFP (10,000 km) before. the whole system apart fro the pipes is fresh. pipe works i don't see any leaks or anything.

Is the fuel filter a genuine part?
Has something blocked the intake in the tank, or the LP lines to towards the filter?

Diesel can grow mould that blocks pipes.

Perhaps blow backwards through them with an airline?
New gearbox & TC, 3 x front wheel bearings, belts changed, new oil pump, new battery, new rear prop, new front prop, new front diff, front arb refurbed, front cv boot kit, egr blank and BAS software patch, full rear suspension / drivelive rebuild, new front arms, LED trailer light fix, split charge.
Never had a 107, 90 or 127, but have had most of the rest!

What's African fuel like these days? If its a bit iffy - or even not, for the cost of a fuel filter, it would be worth replacing - especially if not genuine or at least one of the known makes.

It’s better quality now days. I agree that often change is a must that’s why I change every 5k miles. Current one has done only 2km thus my surprise.
It is not LR but it is good quality OEM. Anyways will change and see how it will go. Hope it’s only that can’t go through the same again !!!
