How to paint an Expedition Rack?
Hi I was wondering if anyone on this forum painted their expedition rack, the front wind deflector part, and if so, how did you do it, and what kind of paint, sanding? primer, etc... did you use? My rack seem to have lost its black sheen and one half looks dull due to sun damage I do believe. See pic.
Narpy's Grill Mod, Suspension Rods, Ultra guage, wrangler Goodyear duratracs 265/60/18, new thermostat, diff oils changed, brake switch new, aluminum rack floor, LED driving lights in foglights, rear camera, just need gvif unit, next on list! New front arb bushings, new front valve block, 191,000 miles.
I took the lazy option - gave it a good wash then sprayed it with satin black paint from Home Depot. Looks as good as new '80 109 Stage 1 V8 - still going strong!

Do you have any pics? Did you sand the plastic at all before you spray painted it?Narpy's Grill Mod, Suspension Rods, Ultra guage, wrangler Goodyear duratracs 265/60/18, new thermostat, diff oils changed, brake switch new, aluminum rack floor, LED driving lights in foglights, rear camera, just need gvif unit, next on list! Hi, on a roadtrip right now to LA so no pics to hand - check back on my previous posts - there are some pics in there somewhere - and one on the back of the 2013 calendar.
I sanded a couple of spots where there were bumps and scrapes, but not the whole rack - I intended it to be a quick fix, with more effort long term, but it came out so well I did nothing further.
If it needs a spruce up another 30 minutes with the spray can and we're done '80 109 Stage 1 V8 - still going strong!

Just to be clear - did not sand the plastic, just spots on the main rack body.'80 109 Stage 1 V8 - still going strong!

Did you take the piece off or did you just leave the rack on the truck and cover and tape up the areas around it and than painted?
