Roof bars
I eventually went for Thule roof bars to fit to exsisting LR roof rails, never knew it was pronounced "toolay".
Anyway, my thoughts had gone from LR Expedition rack, which didn't have the weight capacity (54.3kg) to a roof box. Thanks for your efforts Discostu! But the space, although huge on DS's, was limiting due to the shape, and suitcase stacking was going to be difficult. So I eventually bought a Thule Xpedition Rack for £200 from Autow in Bonnie Scotland. It hasn't arrived yet but the bars are in place
Foot set 751
Aero Bars 861
Fitting kit 3027
Rack 821
What I hope to achieve is being able to carry a number of suitcases to the airport as well as 7 people in the D3 for a 2 week holiday.
I think it should all fit, with any soft bags behind the third row.
My only reservation is the look of the rack, but even if it looks daft I'll post a picture for your delictation.

fishy, looks mean nothing, racks have to be fit for purpose......you won't go wrong with thule stuff well done and seems to be a good price too, I also need the 7 bodies and luggage and bikes hence expo rack and trailer.....I think they are a bit conservative with the 53kg limit, just look at all the g4 photos of bikes , canoes and competitors on the rack at the same time!2007 HSE Java Black.....sold

I hope you don't plan to leave the d3 in a parking house.
With the rack on top of the roof bars you'd better check the height limit of the airport parking.
For such a purpose I have a small trailer with lid (waterproof and can be locked).

I have a holiday booked for November when I'm taking the Mrs, 3 kids, my 81 yr old Mum and my twin Brother to Florida. I need to leave the car at the Airport for 2 weeks so don't want the worry of a trailer or the parking cost. My thoughts are to remove the rack at the Airport and stow it inside the D3. As I said before, at present I only have the bars fitted (Simple task-remember to measure everything when fitting for squareness) so the photo's are not very exciting at present, and a little dark but here ya go.
The rack is due any time now (Hopefully tomorrow) and it looks like the Swedes have flat packed it too, having seen the assembly instructions I may have it fitted just in time for my hols!
I paid way over the odds for the bars coz I wanted them now, about £155.00 from Halfords and still had to wait a few days for the fitting kit.
I'm sure with a bit of looking on the web, you'd find the same for less.
The rack I think cost £208.00 inc Vat and delivery.FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!

Well I'm 95 kgs, and I stood on 2 bars of the LR expo rack while loading around 60kgs of luggage and the dogs beds ...drove to Wales and back without incident (not still stood on the rack I might ad) Some of the guys used to strap 2 of their 19"s with MTR's fitted to the rack ...thats at least 70kgs. I would think that you could get away with a little over 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Had a response to my "where is it?" e-mail this afternoon.
I'm told that Thule won't have them in from Sweden until the 1st of March!

Had a call this morning from Autow to tell me the rack is in stock and will be with me tomorrow!
Now I gotta find the time to put it together, and fit it.
Can't see it happening for a while yet as work commitments have me "nose to the grindwheel" for the next few days.
I just know I won't be able to resist it though, thinking up excuses already!
Still trying to make an excuse to myself to get to Fairmile.
Damn this self employment, every excuse i think of the boss has heard it before.

Roof Bars and Boxes
Does anyone know whether you can fit roof bars to a D3 without the T tracks fitted? I want to fit a box to go to france Skiing but want to take it all off when not loaded up.

'T-Tracks' are the cross-bars. You need roof-rails fitted to fit the cross-bars. Roof box and cross-rails can be easily removed, but roof-rails are fixed. These are very low profile though, so don't show.
