New member, first time poster, On my 3rd D3 after having 2 D2's,
had the engine warning thing with loss of power used Gazdrivers post and problem fixed, was a sticky turbo actuator, lots of wd40 and working back and forward with a coat hanger, cant thank you enough, absolutely brilliant !!!!
Quote:
I had both those last week as Flack says it was the actuator linkage on the turbo my car had been sitting for a few weeks good dose of WD40 bent coat hanger wiggle it back and forth sorted it all out
three bolts on near side front wing heat shield big dollop of WD40 wiggle and all warnings gone happy days Thumbs Up
its here once u take off the heat shield
Jack up near side front i removed the wheel look at back of inner wing you will see the heat shields you can see the middle one removed in photo below you cannot see the top link of the actuator very well its hidden just behind the turbo, if you shine a torch you can just see the top of the ball end of the actuator .... its behind the oil banjo fitting in pic 2 the red arrow points roughly where it its ...
I then sprayed copious amounts of WD40 and with a bent coat hanger hooked the top of the actuator and moved it back and forth ...did this a few times, which sorted out the problem

Thanks Gazdiver for the write up. I found it very useful, and managed to unseize the linkage and sort out the warning lights. This problem as with others who have reported it came to my car after a few weeks of standing in the garage.
Easy fix, but I wasn't really sure from your photos which part I was trying to free, so I found another post ( http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic80761.h...o+pictures ) and this photo from that post was VERY useful in helping the dog see the rabbit:

Quick question, when you go the actuator, should the rod be floppy when the actuator is seized then have a damped feel when free ????

Just found this thread as I am hoping yesterdays ESF warning is caused by a stiff actuator linkage.
If i put the car it to high ground clearance mode to gain access where is a good place to put an axle stand in case the car decides to lower itself?
Take passenger front wheel off supporting the car on axle stand or wood under the chassis, remove the 3 screws to get the shield off and then you can get to the linkage Altox GSM FBH controller thread
