Cycle Rack
Does anyone know of a cycle rack that allows you to use the upper section of the rear door when it's on? Or failing that one that doesn't require a tow ball?
Was very chuffed that my bike fitted in the back of the Disco, wasn't as chuffed at the end of the ride when I had to put it in all covered in mud Doh!

I custom fitted mine to the upper rear tailgate, allows me to open both top and bottom with bike attached.
Taken some pics but still need to upload .... watch this space....... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Thule do a tilting rack that swings down to allow the upper door to open. I think it is the EuroClassic Pro 902 or 903.
My basic Thule RideOn 9403 tilts down to allow access to the top tailgate. The better Thule racks have a better tilt system.... i.e. much easier (quick release) to tilt.
See Roofbox for product range and other brands. The Thule stuff is well made and reasonably priced. Mine was only around £90 and it includes a good light board.

Just thought some may be interested on the [custom] Bike Rack I've had on my D3 for the last 2 years [and previous cars].
It is locked secure to tailgate, so nobody can nick it [or bike when locked on].
It's rock solid and dosn't sway around, therefore excess M'way speeds no issue.
I can also open tailgate top & bottom when bike is on.
Don't need Number plate board & electrics.
Doesn't foul when towing caravan.
Only problem is - I cann't use my rear wiper when it's on - but that's no big deal.
More Photos in My Gallery.

I think with all that on the back, the rear wiper would be of little use

D3Matt, bought one of those on Sunday. Great piece of kit, rock solid. Broke my hand riding at the weekend though so little chance of riding over the next few weeks.

Thule great bike carrier for D3
Also got the same Thule 903 as D3Matt, and it works well ; tilt it down and you can access the tailgate, and the wiper works fine if you are careful with the first bike. We have carried 2 adults and 2 kids bikes no problem on this carrier (officially a 3-bike carrier). It is a substantial unit (read quite heavy!) and does take up a bit of space to store when not in use.Don't put it off, go for it!

Pendle do something called a "Discovery" and a "Landrover" rack.
It projects about 10 inches out from the back to allow it to clear rear-mounted spare wheels. It would also allow the top tail gate to open. I have one and they hold 2 adults and 2 kid bikes. They also allow me to do push ups on them, so they must be pretty strong. Mine cost £95.
But, you need a tow bar. Removeable ones are going for peanuts on eBay at the mo (compared to the 200 notes I paid for mine). No longer a D3 owner but still subscribed to multiple threads!
These Pendle units seem very expensive to me when you can buy a Thule RideOn for the same money. The Thule unit is a far more advanced design, would hold the bikes better and also has a lighting board. It's a bargain for £90. Still, the Thule rack does take up a lot of space in the shed!Matt

I don't have a shed so my Thule lives in the boot of the hardly used Beemer.
