My pleasure! It would be good to see some more photos of the results if possible - Albert McFly's looks great!

Watching people's results with this method with interest.
My HSE wheel is terrible looking so this could be a good way to bring it back.
Is it like most things, good preparation will give the best results? In loving memory of FA54WSK.
Rest well old friend, your work is done.

I followed the advice and spent ages and half a bottle of nail varnish remover removing the bumps and crud. Just keep plugging away until it's smooth. I found a fingernail under the cloth worked in ironing out some of the more stubborn creases.
One section was left rather furry, so the sandpaper took that off - don't worry if some of the colour comes with it as the treatment restores it back to black. A couple of coatings of the sealant and it's as good a new - and considerably cheaper.

Absolutely. You will spend 1/2 hours just removing the gunk. If you don't remove all of the sticky bits the fibres from the cleaning cloth will stick to it and show up after you add the sealant making it rough to touch.
Don't be scared of the sand paper either just makes sure its an extra fine grade. Disco 3 HSE

Brilliant post, thank you Randall977. Had a quick go at my wheel today with nail varnish remover and it already looks looks fantastic compared to the sticky mess it was in. Will take some time to get it perfect but I'm looking forward to finishing it tomorrow
Now, how to get the mess off your hands

Is everything included in the kit? Do I need anything else other than this and the weapons grade nail varnish remover? flickr

You'll need the ebay kit. To get the right finish dye and sealant are required.

I'm liking the 50/50 Matt and gloss idea from Albert mcfly, looks like a nice subtle sheen, anyone else tried this?
Still waiting for my pack from eBay, I'm guessing they've had a few extra orders to cope with over the last few days!
I've cleaned all the gunk off though, and it already looks pretty good, took a bottle and a half of remover though (and SWMBO is wondering where the good tea towels have gone )
One side of the wheel was a little furry, after cleaning. A light sanding has help a fair bit, but its still a not quite as smooth as the other side. Does the lacquer and sealant help to smooth it further, of should I grit my teeth and half another go with the sandpaper?
