Thanks Blowpipe!

Just to make it clear - you will also need nail varnish remover - get extra strength, not acetone free - costs about £1.50 from Sainsburys - you'll need 1 / 2 bottle depending on how much gunk you want to remove...

I've only ever seen this in a Disco and a Focus - both from 2005. Is it a Ford thing?

We have a Galaxy with the same knackered steering wheel.

...also, use a gloss finish, matt makes it look grey - semi gloss might be okay but I didn't try it.

When you rub away the lumps don't over do it, the leather is pretty resilient but use a bit of common sense - I tried to evenly rub the wheel applying a bit more presssure on the bad bits. I found the rear of the wheel to be much better, indicating that sweat proabably accounts for much of the problem.

It would be good to see the photographic results for other people...

Done this today and it works treat. Thanks for the info and posting a link to the kit.

Tip - if you have any rough bits or wear on the leather that shows up after the cleaning, take some very fine sand paper and gently rub them down. Then apply the lacquer and repeat if necessary to achieve a smooth finish. I mixed the matt and gloss finish 50/50 and this gave the same finish as the original steering wheel.

Looks really good Thumbs Up

How long did it take?

Did you mask around the rest of the wheel?

On another note has anybody repaired seats?

I'm doing mine next week for sure....

Do the SE and HSE have the same steering wheel finish when new i.e. are both smooth finish are they textured?

Anybody done seats or armrests?

Hi Mark, yours looks great (better than mine) - can I post your photo here for others to see?

Did mine this afternoon. What a transformation. I must admit to using sandpaper with some trepidation, but my fears were groundless. I've now got in effect a new steering wheel, it looks fantastic and was easy (this coming from someone with almost zero DIY skills).

Many thanks to Randall977 for bringing this fix to the forum.
